I've just been royally screwed by Adrian Flux, I renewed my policy on the Cossie on 28th March as I had no idea when the car would sell. Sold the car today, refund of policy from Adrian Flux came to £209, so in effect I paid £181 for 17 days insurance. No wonder the customer services person sounded very embarrassed.

Avoid like the plague.

It will be listed in your documents. Most Insurers I've used have a refund sliding scale system.

i.e. after 'x' amount of days you only get a certain %, then after 'y" amount of days that % drops, etc, etc. its not normally based on days insured.

All based on my own experience and may vary between lenders

I've had & have today the same problem, previously used Day Insure. at the moment I am trying to sell the Jeep. Admiral added it to the multicar policy for one month for £80

I used them last year for 3 vehicles.

I've never known such an arse-ache with paperwork. Took weeks to get them to manage the simplest of things. At one point, they said the scan of my licence was 'too small' because one of the advisors had confused a thumbnail with the actual image.

Then they said my NCB document wasn't correct - I had to insist they phone up my previous insurer because I was fed up with acting as a go between.

Then I switched my main car and they wanted an additional £3K - cancelled the policy and got about 50p back.

I won't use them again after they tried the "make the auto renewal twice the price of the previous year " con trick.

I've used green light the last 3-4 years. Renewals are always stable so have kept with them

For the past ~20 years, people have been complaining constantly about how bad they are. But people continue to use them and they continue to thrive. Very bizarre.

Just as an update. Just sold the Jeep, phoned Admiral to cease the policy. The nice man said OK divide £80 by 30. You've used the policy for 15 days, then we will refund 15/30ths we'll process that back to your card in the next 5-10 days. Can't argue with that. No admin fee or anything else.

AF always offer a poor renewal but a quick phone call and it always comes down,

My experience of Greenlight was poor, called them up recently to see if I could move my 2x modified cars over from AF and was told no as they wouldn't agree a valuation on either of them. The guy one phone started arguing with me saying its not worth that. Reported it to Greenlight CS but never got a follow up.

Interesting to see I'm not the only one who has experienced st serve from them.

When I was 24 I was getting quotes for my Z4M of £7,000. A quick play around on the price comparison websites suggested that this came down to around £1,000 on my 25th birthday.

When I turned 25 I was currently half-way through a policy with Adrian Flux and didn't want to lose the cost of that so phoned them up to see what they would charge. I gave them the reg of a Z4M out of the PH classifieds and after explaining how I was going to handle such a "powerful rear wheel drive car" rolleyes they agreed to match the price comparison site's quote. So, armed with the fact I could now afford to run one I started looking in the classifieds properly. Found one, bought it, had it delivered, phoned up Adrian Flux and the conversation ensued something along the lines of: -

"That will be £1,500 please"
"Why"?
"Because it is a powerful car and you have no experience"
"We have already had this conversation. I purposely phoned up prior to purchasing the car and you gave me a quote knowing this"
"Let me check the records" she comes back "Ah, but that isn't the same car"
"No I know, but it is the same model, colour and year what is the difference"?
"It's a different car"

This went on for a few minutes and it was clear I was going to get nowhere. I knew I would lose pretty much the same by ending my existing policy so as I had not a lot of choice. My first proper car was sat outside and I couldn't drive it. I just renewed it as I couldn't be bothered to argue or phone up other companies, I just wanted to drive the car.

Incidentally, I have renewed every year, although I get the old, more than double the last renewal trick, but when questioned they beat my existing quote. £1,500 is my best reduction so far.

Absolute wkers. Although, I console myself that I have reclaimed that initial £500 by virtue of them beating my price comparison quotes over the years but I would never, ever recommended them to a friend.

Then there was the keycare incident which makes my blood boil thinking about it... furious

I will add some balance and say I've been with them for the last 3 years and they have been consistently by far the cheapest company for my Scirocco (specialist policy, lots of mods, agreed value) and also include the benefit of driving any other car fully comprehensive. Which is great for me.


I would argue for normal cars it's probably not ideal but if you mod your cars then they are pretty good.

I find the call centre average at best and sometimes you can be on hold for a while but I've not had any issues SO FAR.

My experience is quite the opposite. If you want good pricing on unusual / classic cars then these are great. its their job to sell the deal and our job to understand what we are buying.

Ive had cover on 3 / 4 litre sports cars including European cover inc. recovery for nearly no money at all.

Such policies don't tot up no claims, theres an admin fee for changes and they are unkind if you cancel the deal - but knowing that,if I plan on selling in the year then I'd be asking what the cancellation policy is, rather than berate them for having policies that keeps premiums low.

I've got my integrale (modified), tvr s and a newish Porsche Cayman insured with them. The classic car cover is, in my opinion, good value. However, with newer model cars they're not so competitive and it's wise to shop around. I've not had too many problems with them, but phone conversations and dealings can be laborious..

To be honest I tried Adrian Flux but they came out £700 more expensive to insure than with Elephant (owned by Admiral) on my M235i.

I also remember when I bought a Peugeot RCZ (with accessories on it that Peugeot themselves fitted) they quoted me £3400 a year on insurance and person on the phone said 'you will not get a better price than that anywhere else on that' in the end I got it down to £1100 with elephant.

can't comment on the customer service with Elephant / Admiral only dealing i have had with them in the last 6 years was a cracked windscreen and that was not much drama at all (were fine with me going BMW official windscreen).

And I had no drama moving house and transferring the policy to a different car etc.

Just remember cheap is always good if you just need insurance. Come to claim and you may regret it a little...

Slightly away from Adrian Flux but I had the same with the RAC. Went up to something like £198 pounds for the year. When I rang the operator I got down to about £164 at which point I cancelled the policy and changed to someone else. I'm not sure how they think this helps their reputation.

Nearly got done by them.Second year quote more than twice the first years
Called them to cancel as I went with A PLAN insurance who beat them by a country mile without asking what my best quote was.The question of why was raised so I told them, to which I was then informed they could beat my best quote!
I let them put me on hold while they 'adjusted their quote'.
'We can beat that' I was told by the excited fool on the phone,to which I replied 'so you were going to rip me off for 80 quid then'.
Cue silence.
'Just make sure You don't accidentally debit my account because I will not be using you again'.
Been with A PLAN for the last 3 years now and they are still competitive (I still try others).
Have often wondered if it is geographical related problem as some on here have found them to be very competitive.

Agree with the A-plan comment. We have our motorhome insured through them - less than £200 per year fully comp - extra £40-something quid for international breakdown cover (required on a 35 year old American van!). When you phone them, they answer the phone, personable service, really happy with the cover.
I used to insure it with AF, but they decided at renewal that it would be three times the amount of the previous year - they even tried the automatic renewal trick - which I guess is tucked somewhere in the small print. Crafty chancers.
The rather modified Merc c280 drifter is also insured through them. No problem having a welded diff on a road car.
Recommended for anything interesting or modified.

If you're with flux you'd better hope that their phone system is working on the day you need to make a claim wink
