Peterborough - Parking and things to do?
Discussion
The cathedral is worth a look (and close by) if you're into that sort of thing.
Take your trunks and have a swim in the Lido.
A walk along the river.
Some good beers at the Bull Hotel. (If not driving)
Some retail therapy in Queensgate and Bridge Street.
Drop into my mums, she'll make you a cup of tea.

All the Eastern Europeans will be at work, doing the jobs we did not want, leaving the town to our home grown jobless.
I don't know how long you will be waiting but Burghley House/Stamford and Flag Fen are not too far away and closer there is the Nene Valley railway. There are BMW and Audi showrooms not far from the passport office as well.

When you follow the signs off the main road to the Passport Office you will get to the end of the street by the building they're in
Left at the tee junction would have you drive past the front door and onto short stay on street parking which wasn't long enough for me to risk it
I thought
But my actual process took about ten minutes max and I coulda/shoulda
but risky
If you look right at the end of the street there's a multistorey visible right in front of you
I parked in there and bunged a couple of hours on the meter
They have phone payment set up which was good
I forgot to take enough change
If you have time after your interview you could wander round like I did and pop inside the nearby cathedral
Sometimes I like a church, I liked theirs
Fabulous ceiling painting

That's as may be but the bottom line is that Peterborough has gone from a very nice, middle class town to an immigrant and migrant dwelling and it's gone to the dogs.I don't know how long you will be waiting but Burghley House/Stamford and Flag Fen are not too far away and closer there is the Nene Valley railway. The market multi-story is closest but the spaces are small... If you want slightly larger spaces on-street parking is available on a meter in Midgate, turn left, keep the passport office on your left then turn right. So as it was, I went, it was throwing it down, the lady in the passport office just looked at me and laughed when I asked her "Is there anything to see or do here that will take me 4 hours?".
They're going to post the passport.
So, was that the full ten minutes? They're going to post the passport.
Where did you park in the end?
There should, perhaps be a Passport Office Wiki - maybe there is
They told me that last year's panic was mostly caused by people not reading the paperwork
Which might be true

Queensgate simply because it seems to be the one car park in Peterborough that isn't Pay and Display which is st when you don't know how long you will be.Where did you park in the end?

Seems like just another city with a shopping centre tbh, maybe on a summers day I'd have stuck around but in the pissing rain I can look in John Lewis and Primark anywhere.
I've just been told my brother and I will be doing this very trip next week so I've read this thread with a vested interest!
I'll take on board the parking suggestions, so thanks for that
Just a related slight hi-jack....
If not Peterborough itself, what about surrounding villages and towns? I know Stamford is pretty, but I've done that a few times with a car show. Is anywhere else nearby worth a visit?
Thanks in advance, guys!

The guvner and I went for a wander round Oundle on the way back to the A14, because she'd been sent an offer from a hotel for a two night package and we didn't know the place
Well there's a couple of nice cafes, similarly a couple of nice looking pubs
We probably won't be spending a couple of days there, just to look at a public school
Stamford is nice enough, Burghley House is very nice to visit and walking around the grounds is free
