Can anyone recommend an alloy refurb place that can do the diamond cut finish? The places I've tried today said they can't and Coopers BMW are unsure if they can either and suggested a new alloy??!!

I'm sure BA alloys do diamond cut these days, failing that I can sort a painted finish if the car is older.

Not really, the whole dip/blast/powder coat procedure takes longer than a straight repaint, add the time taken to then cut the face and recoat. You wont find anyone able to do it in a day. Only people that specialise in repainting can do it within a day so your not without a car.

I'm not sure about diamond cut, but I do know that there are some Wicked people involved in wheel refurbishment who I wouldn't use again. wink

I'm picking some alloys up from Lowestoft next week, gladly grab yours and do at cost for a fellow PH member, if you can't find anybody else.

We have just spent 4 months becoming approved to do work for the largest alloy wheel insurance company in the uk.

How much for a refurb on a set of 17 inch alloys

Subtle, but not as subtle as the person commenting on this thread offering his alloy wheel refurbishment services! Do you know anyone you could recommend Slippery?

No, sorry I can't help here. Wheelrepairit knows the business well as I think he used to supply a lot of the re-furbers in East Anglia. If he was offering to help out I would probably take that path although I have no direct experience of his work. He's not anonymous, has attended some PH runs etc, so I doubt he would offer to help out a potentially fussy PHer if he didn't think his work was of a high enough standard. It wouldn't be worth the hassle.

I have no problem with you offering your services to a fellow PH member. Do you do diamond cut then?

BA don't do it - I wanted my Clio V6 alloys done but they could help. No help but had my Lambo alloys finished in 'glass silver' last year. Looks awesome but cost £££££££'s

Things might have changed at BA in the last 6 months

Neil,

Yes, after much badgering and seeing the amount of business around, Bruce was going to invest in the equipment to diamond cut. Think it would have been 6-8 months ago though.

BA told me they do but takes 4 days. I was speaking to the guy at Coopers BM today who does the alloy repairs there and they said they can do it but not onsite. They send it off and takes 4 days.

Im guessing there aren't many if anyone that actually do it in house locally, just outsource and work as a middle man? I maybe wrong but that's how it seems. Anyway, the guy at BM is going to look at it when it's in for a service next week and go from there.

You will be lucky to find anyone within a dealership that will do diamond cut. When I used to work for BMW years ago, I used to do their alloy wheel refurbs inhouse as an employee, anything diamond cut went to Lepsons or Spit and Polish, up to a week before they came back. Anything else was done in house, i.e painted.

That would be an option if the M3 came with a spare wheel....

I used to be able to refurb the rims on E46 M3 wheels, used to cut back the clearcoat after removing the damage, polish up and recoat, used to look very good considering it was a partial repair.
