Hi all,

Just thinking out loud at the moment, but want to try and learn to weld a bit more competently than present. I do have a MIG welder and can weld a bit but just want to make things a little better and more efficient.

Does anyone know of anyone who would be willing to teach me to weld? I know that there are a few courses around Norfolk, but to be honest, I would prefer a bit of one on one learning with someone who is competent. Happy to pay (cash or beer/whiskey as necessary!). At present, I work 9-5 so I would probably be interested in a few hours either on evenings or weekends.

Thanks smile

I could do with some lessons/coaching too. What are the night classes like around the Lakenheath/Mildenhall area like?

Best advice I can give you is

Join wwww.mig-welding.co.uk

Some great instructional videos on there and Malcolm has been known to do the occasional coaching session

Next advice is - One thing that massively helped my welding was not using a "box mover" welder that required new settings every time I used it

Finally what do you want to weld - I've made gates and movable plant pot stands (pot stand are in one of the pictures)

Garden after remodeling (building site for a couple of years - meant we had to gain access from the rear for building supplies and the old fence was rotten and old and fell down)

Gates in progress

All done - looks like a fence too (had some neighbour driven council issues)

Also made a jig for the Rally car (sitting on it in the picture below) and it's always so much easier to work with thicker stuff than working on cars.

I'm currently still welding up a mini - one of the hardest cars to weld ever as the metal is so thin - but when I finish that and start in my 1979 Opel Rally car there will be plenty of welding on there and the metal is much thicker and you are welcome in Thetford if you want some practice on car metal work

I learnt to weld on my Mini when I was 15/16, not easy as you say with such thin metal!

yes

Luckily as it's been kept OTR for the last decade, the chassis is quite solid, so just a few small spots to cut out and replace.

Rear inner wings are by far the worst bit, there's fk all there.
