Used to be a bit rough, but now quite the up and comming town. Nice shops opening, pubs no longer have so much sawdust.

Be aware of its complete and utter middle of nowhere'ness though which is either a plus or a minus. Can say this as I love that, I live in Rendham! We still burn people who wear digital watches!

Thanks for info'. Looking at a small converted Chapel just off the main through way and close to clock tower. Its so close to the high street which is why I ask about, well bluntly, yobs at night in the area.
If new shops are opening that sounds good, middle of nowhere we are used to that, in fact we live behind the back of beyond at the moment, Eye, Suffolk biggrin. I like a good 'proper pub' not one of the tarted up variety full of bling! We shall have a drive out there this weekend for a looksee around. Any other info'or thoughts gratefully received. Thanks again.

We moved from Newton Flotman to Harleston December 2011, and we are near enogh in the middle of Town. Love the place, shops, Pubs etc very good, Not to much noise late at night, (its quiet) apart from the odd car, but I cant comment on that can I ! Very Friendly Town and people, my Mrs loves it, plenty of nice things to do in the day I am told. Norwich is a bit of a run, But Diss (& Scole!) are only 12 minutes away.
Being 5 minutes walk from 3 Pubs, 2 Supermarkets lots of takeways and very nice shops has many advantages and not much against it. smile

Harleston is a pretty good place to live tbf. Went to school there and still spend a lot of time there. Pubs are good. Shops are good. Chinese is top notch . It doesn't ever get to lively at night so the drunken yobs won't be an issue. Would reccomend highly.

laugh

We had a drive around yesterday and a quick look at the home (from outside) that we are contemplating buying. A handwritten notice by the neighbour opposite kinda made us roll our eyes a little : "Please do not let your dog mess on our drive". Ummmmmm!

That'll be my sister. Never did learn to use the toilet.

I quite like Harleston but prefer some of the smaller villages around.

Well, your eyes might roll, but I feel their pain!

I don't have a hobby of clearing after someone else's dog -
especially if they have just watched it doing the deed!

Steve

Yup, completely with you there. What I meant by my comment was that there are still people about letting their dogs poop on other peoples property, that's what made my eyes roll. smile

Great garden by the way!

Sadly, that's the way of the world these days! It wasn't me
guv, seems to be a typical approach. Boy oh boy, if I catch
'em...

Glad you liked my patch - my studio faces out onto that, so
it's been an ambition to get it disabled friendly for a while!

Steve

This dog poop problem isn't as bad as years back, but if its you affected nothing more infuriating.
Years ago we used to live on a modern housing estate which was open plan. We had a grass lawn to our front and sure enough some barsteward would allow his dog to use it. I said to my two kids (7 and 8 year olds) if you see any one with a dog and allowing their dog to poop on our patch just shout out for me.
Sure enough within a day or two at top of their voices came the call. I went hurtling out there to see this bloke straining at the dog lead pulling this dog along across the road, the dog was still in the 'position' laugh A few well chosen words from me and they never came back.
