My '84 Porsche 944 lux failed its MOT partly because the nearside and offside suspension component mounting are excessively corroded (as is the near side seatbelt anchorage). Anyone else had problems in this area? The car is in a warm dry garage now, but the previous owner kept it outside. how much typically does this cost to weld up? I need to know some decent quality and priced welders in Norwich
Lastly the suspension arm is a bit corroded but if it's being welded in that area, is it worth replacing these to avoid future problems? Is this the same as the control arm? They seem to be about £25 each.

Thanks in advance!
Andy

Andy,

Best guy I would recommend for advice on what to do would be Mike Roberts at M Sport in Norwich.

Ex Porsche Technician who works on nothing but Porsches of various heritage.

Also he is a 'bloody nice chap'

Thanks that's great I'll give him a call.

Iook it to a few garages to get quotes on welding, but was in the £600-£700 region. The problem is that the inner sills are rotten too, so the whole outer sill needs removing and the whole lot welding to ensure it's totally structurally sound.
Thinking of ordering sills from eBay (galvanised steel ones are about £50 each including postage), but how much work is involved with the welding? The guy I bought the car with can weld a bit but not that well.
Anyone had a go at this?
