Car collection, puncture and split coolant hose - sheesh
Discussion
I've had a busy day
Started with a journey from Thetford to Shipdam to borrow a local club members car trailer (thanks Gewy *Paul) on the way I dropped of a wheel and tyre from the SLK to have a pucture repaired as that let me down as the daily driver to work earlier that day - dirty great big nail I picked up from somewhere
Collected it was then back to Thetford and time to bring home the Rally car
Here it is on the Jig I made - supported on the bottom edge of the sills (I made the Jig so it could support on Sills when longest length front to rear or alternatively when longest length from side to side it picks up on the std Monza jacking points)
so as I could see a little bit of sill work would be required I got it turned arround and dropped onto the jacking points
Next onto the trailer
Then adjusted to reduce the nose weight and strapped down
15 mins later with a cloud of sand and dried primer dust following I was home
So I stuck it on the drive so that all the neighbours could admire it while I took the trailer back to it's home
This might not have been the wisest idea as my long suffering better half Lisa would get home before I got back from returning the trailer so I stuck a note on it saying it will be inside the garage tonight dear
On the way to return the trailer I dropped in to collect repaired wheel and tyre (it wasn't ready)
While I was backing the trailer back into it's storage place the BMW decided that it would be a good time to start chucking steam out of the bonnet - I appear to have a pin hole in one of the back hoses so I topped up the coolant and gently trickled it back home.
Once home it was time for a shuffle around - There is my nephews (Alfie) mini project shell at the back of the garage that is balanced on wheels and tyres and axle stands (I'd made a similar jig for it with wheels so first job transfer the shell onto the jig) tonight was mini night so at 7pm Alfie arrived
I found out that two people can't lift a Monza shell but they can lift a mini shell so Mini on Jig - Monza on Jig - Monza went down the bottom of the drive and Mini came out of the garage for the first time in a while
Monza then went backwards into the garage and mini then followed
And here it is
And my Portamig did it's own informal introductions - they'll get better aquainted very soon
Bit of tiding up and re- organisation as well as loading up the BMW with some stuff for the tip and that was me done - time for a nice cold drink and catch up with whats been going on in the forum email world
PS if you think it looks rough you should see the before pictures
Or maybe even the before before pictures
Oh well I'm not gonna be stuck for something to do in the garage for a while now

So are you going to use this to re-shell the current ripple effect Monza?
Nope - This is a totally separate project - it's a 1979 Historic Rally Car that I will restore to the livery it was in when it last competatively raced in 1987I will eventually reshell the Track day Monza but not into a Monza shell (I have an agreement with Lisa that I can't have more than one of any car long term (and I have 3 Monzas right now - ooops luckily she only knows about 2).

Sooooo, ready for the weekend then..
Looks like a great project and kudos for you attempting it. I wouldn't know where to start let alone having a 'sympathetic' wife...

Bit of an understatement! Looks good Ian
Please bear in mind this isn't a chequebook resto - it has a really tiny budget to get it all done and I've spent nearly half of it already buying the car, it's donor Monza for parts and storage, transport and shell preparation. I think I have £1450 (or close to that left) and with that I have to finish the whole car in the original livery as well as a lot of other stuff
Original livery below taken when the car was on it's last competative outing (finishing 5th overall on the Circuit of Ireland Rally in 1987
Scuse the scan

Do I get points for 'guessing' the driver, nav and track......
Ha ha - Yeah Publicly I'll award you full marks - Privately I'll tell everyone you had a crib sheet although I'd be really impressed if you got the track pictured above as I'm not even sure I know itrtv said:
Good to see she's home mate. A good mate breaks E38's, email me if you want his number ian. For spares for yours of course, not to weigh it in......
