I don't often post threads about bad service as I prefer to let people make their own mind up but I have seen 2 examples of bad service and damned right con-artistry this week. I think peeps need to know when things go wrong and who NOT to go to. Let me expand:

My Mothers Merc SL 2004 had a rattle in the petrol tank. My Father called Merc Kings Lynn and they quoted £1730 inc VAT. My Father saw an advert from a local Mercedes Specialist in Dereham (begins with'Z') claiming to save £100's on Main Dealer prices. He took the car in and they started stripping the tank down. After taking 3 hours to get the tank out they called my father with a quote.

The guy said the quote will be £1729. My father told them that their quote is only £1 cheaper than the main Dealer price. The guy replied " So do want us rebuild the car?" knowing he had already spent 3 hours stripping down the car. If my Father had insisted he rebuild it he would have faced a £600 bill +PLUS+ The Main Dealer fixed price of £1730.......... so the guy had my father by the knackers!!

He had no choice but to go with the shysters and pay the £1729 bill at the end of it. The car was presented well to him on collection but this does not get away from the fact the garage simply called a main Dealer, got the fixed price, and then knocked a quid off to make them cheaper - this is kind of underhand fleecing we hear about on the TV. They even admitted they took 5hrs longer to do the job than the 11hrs stipulated by Mercedes for the job. This is why they were £1 cheaper than Merc.......Urhh - how is that fair. It doesn't make it OK if you charge the same as main Dealers coz you take twice as long to complete the job - bulls**t mi thinx!

Look out warriors as this company (in a previous guise (Millen**m Mercedes) also f'd me over on my Integrale leaving me with a £660 bill and fooked brakes!!

The second one is a local Dereham Car bodyshop based in Greens Rd, Dereham who had the task of spraying the Clio V6 front PU prior to sale. I dropped it off Dec 1st to collect 6th Dec. I finally got the car back Februrary 14th after 4 attempts (2 missed deadlines/2 attempts I rejected), and even then it was left with a light spray dust all over the body which I have had to spend 4hrs polishing off by hand.

Is it them or me???????

As I said - its a jungle out thereshootevilrageshootshootshootshootbanditbanditbanditbandit

Neil!

nono Didn't you think? You should have given me a bell!

I could have told you about the former Millenium Mercedes. Everything I've heard is negative. You should have taken it to Autotechnic out in Chedgrave, near Loddon. They are the guys I have used for years. Ex-Robinsons chaps, highly regarded by many round here, with their exemplary service. Let me know if you would like their details.

As for a bodyshop, we've used Stratton Motor Company for all our cars. I've found their prices in line with other bodyshops, and the service excellent. In the rare event of an issue, the problem has been sorted quickly and efficiently.

I hope that helps clear the Jungle wink

I agree Darren - but my father kind of told me where he went AFTER he had dropped it off with them. I then told him about the service I got but didn't want to scare him - made no difference thoughscratchchin -he still got fleeced!
