Just picked up a 2001 Audi A8 4.2 Quattro today - loving it, but the only thing that doesn't work is the cruise control.

I happen to know the ECU was replaced in October last year, and a common side-effect of this is the cruise being disabled.

Anyone near to Diss with VAGCOM willing to re-set it for me for beer money? I'm guessing if I take it to the Audi dealer in Norwich I'll come away with my trousers around my ankles...

Can't help you personally tim, but I'm told Yelverton Garage are the VAG specialists to talk to in our neck of the woods about these cars. That's where mine will be going when it needs its service. It won't be beer moner, but I doubt it will be main agent money either.

I'm 7 miles south of Diss in Wetheringsett, I'd be glad to take a look for you, the only problem being that during the week I commute into London so the earlist I could check it out during the week is 8pm or 7pm on Friday (POETS day).

Let me know if you want to bring the car down and I'll check it out.

Tim, this weekend is out I'm afraid, wedding anniversary celebrations on Saturday then I'm at Snet on Sunday trying out the Cayman on my favourite circuit.

Friday evening around 7 would be fine though, pm me and I'll send you the details.

Apologies for the thread hijack!

I too live in Diss and also own an Audi, but I've an ABS fault. The audible warning and constant flashing of the dashboard light is driving me round the twist!

I've had three garages plug their diagnostics machines in and all have come back with zero faults. There's definately something wrong, as the ABS doesn't work!

Does your software successfully recognise ABS faults?

I think you know where I'm going with this... and obviously happy to pay for the service.

Once again, sorry for jumping in.

Sorry, I missed your reply. Thanks for the offer.

I've now had a VAGCOM machine plugged in, but it "couldn't comminicate" with the car, so apparently this means that the ABS Module is faulty. I'm advised it's £1500 for Audi to supply a new part, or £100 to send my part away for repair.

I'm off to the Post Office...
