Scamming after dark?
Discussion
Did I spot the Norfolk Speed Camera Parasites raising invoices on the A11 immediately after the first left hand bend Eastbound after the last Thetford roundabout after dark over the festive period?
Surely they can make enough money during normal working hours or is there some sort of christmas bonus scheme operating?
Can they even function at night?

Although it was a few years ago, I once thought I saw a Scamera Van out at night - and thought I saw it too late.
Worried of a beer token and points bill landing on the door mat, I called up the Camera Partnership and simply asked if they work at night, to which I received a thankful "No".
I'm not sure, however, if technology has changed since then.

Speed cameras certainly can work at night; I saw them in operation round here when it all kicked off over ten years ago. Driving along minding my own business when a car going the other way set the double flash off - FLASH FLASH - straight in my eyes, bye bye night vision, swerve, kill child etc. I wrote and told the cretins how bloody dangerous their new toy was, and whilst they wrote me the usual flannel in reply, I didn't see them operating after dark again.

The standard "gatso" ones by the side of the road do as they have a flash.I think the OP is talking about the vans in particular which AFAIK have no flash/IR camera and thus couldn't read a plate.
My lady got nicked at night by a copper with the gatso type, no light on it and by his own statement it was dark, wet and foggy, he took the reading at over 150m, didn't have any hi vis on and his car was hidden down another road while he hid in the hedge, girlfriend was adamant she wasn't speeding so she went to court to put her case, single parent to 4 young children, £500 fine and costs, fine dropped to £1 on appeal, copper said to her in cafe at court if she had said her hubby she is separated from was a soldier, he would of let her off, he also put the time as 07.15 which was 12 hours before the incident, does any of that matter at court, no. She could of got the costs reduced too but you have to go back to magistrates for that so she gave in, although that was 4 months ago and no revised fine or request for payment as yet, hopefully they've forgotten.
Moral of story, if you are a lone female driver and someone steps in the road dressed in black waving a light wand and no police car in sight, keep driving!!!! Either run them over or if they are a copper that hides their car 40-50 metres away they'll never catch you anyway.

The one that blinded me was set up behind a van on a little tripod, so low down. I don't know if they are still used but it would be nice to think that my original complaint made them realise that by trying to stop one hazard they were adding another. Mind you that was in the day of Head Numpty Brian Ladd and his infamous Hypothecated Safety Partnership. It seems that a little common sense has crept in since those control-freak days.I think the OP is talking about the vans in particular which AFAIK have no flash/IR camera and thus couldn't read a plate.
