Hi All,

I have organised a charity Karting event on Sunday 18th Septemver 2011 at Red Lodge Karting centre near Newmarket.
The event will be in support for Cancer research and I hope to raise over £2000 for the charity, I am sure that everyone of you has unfortunately known somebody that has suffered with cancer at some point so this is an opportunity to have some fun and raise hopefully lots of money for a charity with a real purpose.

Now you have no excuse to not get a team together for this excellent event!

Details:
• Start time 14:00 Sunday 18th September
• Endurance Format – 15mins Qualifying / 120 Mins endurance race
o Teams can be anything from 2 – 6 drivers however a minimum of 5 pit stops are required
o Karts are twin engine 270cc and the circuit is the 1200m configuration
o Cost per team is £175, However as this is for charity each team is expected to donate through the following website for the charity http://www.justgiving.com/CRUK-Karting-Challenge
o There is a prize for the team that raises the most sponsorship
o Raffle with many McLaren and Lotus prizes up for grabs!
• Trophies will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, 3rd place teams and also the best improved team throughout the race.
• Each team member will receive a commemorative T-Shirt for the event
• Minimum of 10 teams and maximum of 16 teams – so please inform me once you have a team so I can book you in to avoid disappointment – deposit required end of July
• This promises to be an excellent event with a real cause behind everyone having some fun!

If you cant race then please feel free to pop in and support the event and donate generously through the Just giving website link above.

Entries to - brad.fincham@mclaren.com and I will send you an application form.

Many thanks

Brad

It sounds like it will be a fun day but I have reservations on the sponsorship part. I regular give to charities and especially those which have anything to do with Cancer Research / Macmillan and sponsor people who make personal achievments through physical effort such as swimming, walking etc. But more and more we are being asked to sponsor people who are doing nothing more than having a good time such as Go Kart racing. By all means hold the event and I might even get a team together myself but please make it a stipulation that everone entering pays a certain amount to the charity rather than asking participants to obtain sponsorship for what amounts to spending an afternoon having a good time without any effort involved. It would be a bit like me asking people to sponsor me to go on holiday.

Hi Leatherman,
Many thanks for your reply. The event originally had a minimum of £100 sponsorship per team but entries were extremely limited hence I had to remove that stipulation.
If you follow the just giving website link you will understand why I am looking to raise money for CRUK and why the money raised is going to a specific area of cancer research rather than the charity in general.

I would love to have a team entry from yourself so please email me and I will send you an entry form.

Regards

Brad
