Adrian Flux - Avoid!

Hi I am having a nightmare with Adrian flux. I was given a van, I insured it with said company under the campervan policy, it needed a new mot so took it for the mot and it failed badly, son I stuck it up for sale on gumtree around 10 July 2018, young lad come and bought it on 14 july , the log book was singed by previous owner for me to send off in my name but due to all the work it needed I sold it and sent the log book off with new keepers details on, I get a phone call from a Adrian flux on 22nd August saying because I cancelled policy early I owed a outstanding balance of 174.06 and because my new car was insured by them was told if I didn't pay it they would cancel my car insurance, so I paid by visa over the phone to them. Well in January this year I get a email saying I owe 249.99 (ish). For a accident on 9 August 2018 say. I don't even own the van at the time and i have tried contacting dvla for proof I had sold it but because it was not in my name they can't give me the info for the insurance company.
I am so worried and don't know what to do.

Again for balance, used A-Plan for my R33 skyline they were great, then when I switched to the Celica GT4 they didnt want to know and were really unhelpful. Chris Knott insured the Celica but then their price was poor even when reduced for renewal and I switched to AF, used them for a year no problems at all price is excellent and their service in terms of all the mods spot on.
Like anything, people will have bad and good experiences, the idea that everyone must avoid AF because another company will be just brilliant all the time is something of a fallacy! And with anything you sign, always read what you are signing up to so there are no nasty surprises lurking.

I have had mixed experiences with AF. Before I had my MX5 I had a Fiesta. AF were one of the companies I got a quote from for it. For a 1.25 (they classed as 1.3 fair enough) the best they could quote was £3700. I was 26 with 7 years NCD at the time. That car ended up being insured with direct line for £600. When I got the MX5 I knew AF were a sports/modded car friendly company so I thought I would give them another chance. The first year I had the car they wernt too far off the best price but I went somewhere else anyway. The last 2 years though they have been by far the cheapest coming in at over £100 cheaper than the next best. A lot of the time price isnt everything and they do have a bad reputation for their customer service but I have recently bought a house so I just went with whatever was cheapest.
They are abysmal, just gave them a try on a policy ‘chassis number’ import and was told i’d be covered to drive from italy to uk, when i asked them to confirm on the quote when they send through they got all sheepish and put the phone down

I insured a modified Ranger with them for a few years and they were very good.

I must be one of the few who have had a decent experience then. I’ve had cars insured with them for the past 6 or 7 years. Some standard, some modified. Currently I have my Audi (standard) and my wife’s Golf (lots of performance mods) with them. Always match the cheapest price I can find elsewhere, but you do have to do the renewal dance.
I’ve used the breakdown service a few times and had a claim where I was hit by a foreign 3rd party who handed over very dubious details. They sorted it all and was non fault. Breakdown cover has been great but appreciate this may depend on the local contractor.
I also like the flex drive which gives you fully comp (up to 25k) on drive other cars. As I borrow family members cars from time to time the £25 seems well worth the peace of mind.

Bump - I remember this thread but went with them anyway as their quote was reasonable at the time.
I am about to make a claim through Flux now as a dozy <insert> drove pulled out of a side road into the side of my MX-5 . So far so good. I didn't have to wait long for claims to take details and nominate a chosen repair garage.

Worth writing a letter to explain you feel it shouldn't have been in the small print? And you wouldn't have taken out the policy if you'd known.Read the small print.
I'd have thought if they were going to do that it should very, very, clear what you were signing up for.
Do an official complaint, giving them 14 days to respond, and you expect a partial refund.
Tell them in the complaint you'll take further advice from ombudsman if you don't receive a reply/satisfactory out come.

To be fair, I had the same with Greenlight (when I put the car into storage during lockdown) - it was in the terms and conditions but I either didn't check at the time. I didn't mind though as a heavily modified (x2 power) car the premium was quite reasonable.Read the small print.

They’re not that bad. I insured a restoration project with them with a value of £5k that I paid £3.5k for. It was written of pretty much the day the restoration was finished by which time it was worth about £25k. The policy said ‘market value’ which is what I got. I then bought it back for £4.5k and sold it. They even gave me a bit of personal injury for a stiff neck.
