Anthony Reid brings Atech to Treforest
Discussion
Good news for South Wales
Atech Reid, a motor racing team which competes in the sport’s Superleague, has relocated from Silverstone to South Wales. The team, run by Anthony Reid, has set up its operating centre in Treforest near Pontypridd as it prepares for the 2011 Superleague Formula Championship.
Atech has recruited a workforce of 28 in South Wales and is working with Swansea Metropolitan University to provide work experience placements. The investment, supported by the Welsh Assembly Government, is expected to create 56 jobs over three years.
Atech was formed for the 2010 season as a merger of two teams which had competed separately in 2009.
The Superleague Formula was launched in 2008 with a field of V12-powered cars liveried with the names and colours of top global football clubs, competing in a league structure.
Team principal Reid said: “We’ve found the skills, support and suppliers that we need to run a successful international racing team all here in South Wales. We are being seen as a serious contender for the 2011 championship after the impact we had in our first year of racing.”
