Anyone seen this place? A shop full of F1 and Stig clohing merchandise.

You may want to check it out sooner rather than later, i can't see it being a success. S Wales isnt exactly a hot bed for motring enthusiasts.

I went in there a week or so ago. Very pricey! Lots of people in there browsing, but didn't see many people buy stuff.

was in there on friday just gone and bought from there only a small t-shirt for my nephew but really fancied one of the small replica F1 steering wheels but at £75 was a bit to pricey for me, nearly bought a set of valentino rossi pictures though, was a bit dissapointed they didnt have any other moto gp stuff though frown

There are good deals to be had if you look regularly.
Got a nice Williams F1 zip top. Searched the net and couldnt find one cheaper so bought one in the shop.

I go to st davids pretty much every day on my lunch and there is always more staff than customers.

Nice idea, wished it would do well but I can't see it sticking around long!

Shame

I can remember about 10 years ago there used to be an F1 shop in the Capitol Shopping Centre. It lasted a few years. I really don't think their future is reliant on the amount of petrol heads in South Wales, there are thousands. I really think the issue is the price of their goods. A lot of motor sport fans live in the South Wales valleys where a team shirt may equate to a days wages obviously the economics don't work there. People are prepared to pay this for designer cloths as there is a massive casual culture in valleys, unfortunately motor sport does not have the same kind of following. Most people in my opinion are happy to watch and read about it but not spend £70 on a shirt. Do you know what I think may have worked? An F1 cafe or something similar. Basically a restaurant/cafe concept which sells merchandise but also shows live races etc. If the prices were right, it may attract a fair few customers plus give them an opportunity to shift some descent amount of stock.

I don't think the success or lack of success of these stores is limited to the UK. In Malaga train station there is a fair size shopping Mall attached. Real top in clothes stores etc. I don't think the F1 shop there lasted more than a year or so despite the success of Alonzo. Strange really as the Spanish seem to be quite fanatical in their support for F1.

The high prices perhaps reflect that lots of merchandise is brought at events when people get carried away a bit and justify the prices to themselves.

The F1 cafe with merchandise sales seems a better concept than the shop alone.

Cafe/bar would probably help drive the clothes sales (particularly when showing live races)and it would be good to have a motoring themed place showing live races, classic re-runs etc and as a bit of a hub for motoring enthusiasts and motorsports fans.

Strange because thats where most F1 teams recruit their pit crew from as most Liverpudlians can get a set of wheels off a car in about 3 seconds.

biggrin

The Sports Cafe down the bay didnt last long either, I used to love going in there just to peer behind the benetton they had propped up on its side, still had the v6 cosworth engine in it, and a 500 race bike in a glass box.

I think they had other issues. Location, Location, Location. There was nothing down there when it was open. I always said that would have made a great lap dancing bar.
