Ross A4059 is a laugh although there are too many sheep and Ponies on the road. Think I need to organise a PH alternative run out taking in some of the more rural road.

A4233 at the Aberdare side has some nice hairpins.

A4061 From Nantymoel to Hirwaun.

A4069 From Llandovery to Brynamman.

Unclassified road from just above Craig-y-nos to Trecastle here. Just be careful on your first time as there are some "tasty" corners and humpback bridges video.

Had to Add, the A470 from Merthyr to Brecon when it's got 4" of snow on it - 4 wheel drifts all the way up.

John.

I have a great circular ride/drive from my house.

First its the B4235 from Chepstow to Usk - legendary bit of road. Then hang a right onto the B4598 from Usk to Abergavenny. From Aber its a right onto the B4521 eastbound to St Owens Cross where I turn south onto the A4137. Then a quick dual carriageway blat back to Monmouth then back to Chepstow down the Wye Valley, which is also a great road but better on the bike than car due to touristy traffic (or early in the morning).

I've just moved down to Cardiff and thought I would go and see what the local road had to offer. Didn't have a massive amount on time but found some amazing ones, plus some bad ones!
A4059 & the A4061 from Hirwaun

those 2 roads are amongst my favourite. the A4107 just off the A4061 is a cracker too, leads up to a brilliant mountain biking centre too smile

Have to make sure to avoid all the roads listed in this thread from now on. Not a good idea having all the best driving roads, selected by the enthusiasts no less, listed on a Public Forum. Must be like a shopping list for the Local Fed's.

The only feds I've ever seen (pretty much) have been on the A470/A40 around Brecon and south of that. Besides - it doesn't matter does it, nobody is breaking the speed limit.

I drive the B4235 a lot it's a great road with that advantage of a few places you can overtake.
Lots of bikes that come over the bridge heading for the bikers Cafe. Two week ago, Sunday I think it was, I was turned around at the Chepstow end, they closed the road because of TWO accidents.

As you say, onto Aber. and up to Ross I use the A40 to Monmouth but will give the A4137 a shot next time.

Monmouth to Chepstow is fine but it can be very frustrating with all the, "I've lost the will to live and bought a mini MPV" types.

One major advantage of these roads is that there are no bloody sheep wandering around.

Keep an eye out for a yellow Elise.

The Maerdy and Bwlch Mountain roads are fairly entertaining, only ever been over them in a van though, keep meaning to make a trip up there in the car one day.

thumbup living in Maerdy with the nearest supermarket over in Aberdare i can confirm the quality of this road on a weekly basis, just pray you dont get stuck behinds a Bus or Tractor with oncoming traffic dissabling the ability to overtake

also i know this isnt in south wales and is a bit of a stretch but worth the time . .

I’m a big fan of the A470 Builth Wells to Rhayader then the A4120 Rhayader to Aberystwyth . used to drive it every other weekend while the Mrs was in Aber uni.
Nothing better than finishing work at 11pm on a Friday night, jumping in the car putting a nice mix CD or ipod on ad driving the 2hrs from Ponty to Aber through a lovely mix of flowing open roads with some beautiful twisty sections.

Some nights i wouldn’t see a car from the moment i left Rhyader until i pulled into Aber.

Although i did get a fright one frosty winters drive, came over a crest with an adverse camber to hit what must have been a patch of frost/black ice to find me travelling sideways at 50mph with nothing more than a few trees and a large drop to save me. Happened right in the middle of the area my phone would lose signal too yikes
