Apparently someone has received an NIP for speeding through the average speed camera section on the M4 by Newport where the 50 limit is in place. So it looks like some of them are definitely live.

Why would the Wiltshire police be sending out summonses for offences in the Newport area ? Are there other roadworks over the bridge with average scameras too I wonder. May not have been caught through Newport.

I always see a car going past me at warp 10 when I go through the average speed part, makes me wonder if they know something I don't. I don't risk it in the car, not worth the points for a few minutes off my travel time.

I drove through the average section earlier and I think I counted 4 that were on, if you go at night the camera on the left of the two is an infrared thing which at night should be red, some are red, some are black ie off, still not worth the risk

Asking in the nicest possible way, this true, ie can you point to some info or is it from the part of the web that can also be considered to be shonky?

I also assume you are referring to the companion piggy back jobbies not the one on the left, out on the left left .....

If you look at the cameras at night the three from the Coldra to Newport aren't working/lit up on the left with a big red circle in the camera, the ones after the tunnels are, if you look at the cameras, similar to these

The on the left is the infrared but I believe, if you go at night you will see some are lit up red, and others aren't, I have also heard that some won't work due to the wrong type of barriers, but I wouldn't put any truth to that personally.

My honest advice, do 50mph, I am only going on what I think to be a live camera and a dead one, go up there at night and make your own desicsions I personally will either stick to 50 or just avoid the M4 all together as all they have done is make it fking st and dangerous, no longer feel comfortable on it, someone needs to cut those cameras down and put it back upto 70, and the workers need to pull their fingers out their arses and finish it, taking the piss now.

I was talking to a guy that works for ERF, the company that are erecting the new over-head gantrys that will house the vairably speed display/cameras, he says they are working but don't cover all of the lanes.

"Stick to 50 like I do" was his advice.

Oh I set the cruise control to 50. Watch the Irish wagons zoom on by and the MLM's blocking them and pass the MLM's when the pass the gantries at 40.
