hi guys,

as some of you know i already know a few of the good roads around s. wales and when the snow clears up i want to go out for a blast, it's been too long now!! i didn't want to go too far out (no more than about 125miles really, 150 miles tops. i'm based around pontypridd (right next to uni of glamorgan). my usual route for a quick blast is just follow the A470 up towards brecon and turn left onto the A4059 and head down to Hirwaun, i then join the A4061 and then continue to the A4017, then i just turn back. but looking at google maps there are a lot of small roads

if you would be kind enough to take a look here:
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_d&a...

i would like to do a little exploring, but does anyone have any idea what the road to the left (B4242 / sam helen) road is like? what about the really small grey ones coming off the A4059 (half way along roughly) heading to ystradfellte are like? or what about the A4067? as said would like to do exploring but don't want to drive there and find they aren't good for driving fun, so if anyone has the experience of them, let me know what you think biggrin

i know the A4069 is a cracker, as are some of the roads around Usk and abergavenny etc but they are a little too far away to do for the time being.

thanks so much in advance, really grateful for any input guys.

take care,

Ross.

Have a look at my post on this thread........

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I've suggested a route that takes in the 4059 & 4069. If you come up the 470 you can turn left at Merthyr along the 465 to Hirwaun & then go north along the 4059 to start with. thumbup

Or, go over to Treorchy from your place & follow the 4061 to Hirwaun. yes

personally i would change your route slightly (sorry dont know what the little roads are like) but i would come off the 470 at heads of the vally road and drop into hirwaun the take then rhigos rd past the ind estate heading into glyn-neath and follow the a4109 over to abercraf take a right at the bottom heading towards ynyswen on the a4067 (excellent road) follow that till you reach defynnog turn right onto a4215 back to a470 then head back from there biggrin

no worries will do, it's likely to be the first saturday or sunday which we have once the snow has cleared and it's not raining. so hopefully 2-3 weeks away if i'm lucky! we are due more heavy snow during the week though frown

cool. well nearer the time i'll PM you and see if you are still up for it, and since you live nearer there hopefully you can give me a heads up that the snow has cleared by then! if you can i'll PM you my number and we can arrange from there. as said, will likely be 2-3 weeks away at best so no hurries yet.

cheers,

Ross.

edited for typo!
