The Priory in Caerleon (my regular haunt- too regular according to SWMBO).
2010 Clubhouse (Rafters) at the Celtic is good, as is the The Lodge in the main Golf club at the Celtic (Mrs MoJo's favourite).
Or if you want something very special try The Walnut Tree at Llandewi Skirrid near Abergavenny, or The Crown at Whitebrook (my favourite). lick The Crown does get booked well in advance so may not be an option short notice.

What do people think about Le Gallois in Canton?

Heard it was good on Radio 1 and a few work colleagues said it was nice so I have booked it to take my parents in January.

I'm not going to be disappointed am I?

Sullivans in Llantrisant - they have a fantastic menu of alligator, ostrich, kangaroo, zebra and so forth and the food is really excellent. Try a weekday as it's quiet.

Ceasars, Priory, El Puerto etc is all very 80s IMHO.

Same Subday Lunch or the same look in the fridge for your meal type affair.

Thanks chaps clap

Some interesting suggestions...

I'm inclined to agree with AR about Caesars/El Puertos etc....not knocking them but just not that "special" any more...not been to The Priory in years but had that in the same category...unfair?

Scallini's is somewhere we've been meaning to try, but heard a bad report the other day.....

Le Gallois has always been excellent in the past - they've recently opened a new place in the Bay, anyone tried it? - but got very pricey...

"swmbo" has been making noises about the new Jamie Oliver place in StD2.... not sure how "special" that will be though....

My parents went there last week and didn't think it was anything too special.

My wife went there with her mates on the weekend and they all loved it.

Looking forward to trying it myself.
