Evening all,

Me and some friends were thinking of going for a 4-5 hour drive to/around Brecon soon as it's our last week in Wales before heading off to uni where most of us will be car-less so it's one last occasion to enjoy what Wales has to offer smile

Was just looking for any route recommendations from the experienced community on here. We're all fairly young drivers (read small engined hatchbacks) although I doubt the type of car will make much difference!

Not sure whether to enter Brecon through Pontardawe or from Ammanford and we'd like to have a stop for food somewhere as well (again, recommendations welcome!) along with maybe 1 or 2 scenic stops.

If anyone's got suggestions, I'd love to hear them. The main thing is that it should be no more than 4 hours (round trip, taking off an hour for lunch) from say Jn 48 of the M4 so probably can't venture too far afield.

Cheers biggrin

Awesome, got a rough route planned out now from trawling through other threads and website and that's already on it! biggrin

One of the group didn't realise that "going for a drive" would involve 120 miles and 3 hours of driving though... :| !

Is that stretch of road down towards Beaufort from Pencelli as good as it's been made out to be for normal (i.e. not sports) cars?

Ok, this is what i would do..
Come off M4 @ 43, follow 465 to Hirwaun.
Then follow 4069 toards Brecon, join 470 towards Brecon.
At Brecon centre (just after the bridge) at lights take second left (more or less straight on), follow around to next lights. Go left, then take next left up Priory hill, A4520. Follow A4520 untill just after Upper Chapel. Then take A4519. This will take you here.......

At the bottom of the 4519 go left on the 483 towards Llandovery. At the T jungtion at Llan'd' go left then right on to the 4069 to llangadog. At this junction is the 'bikers cafe' which has good grub. yes. At Llangadog Town centre go left, (very tight) & follow 4069 up over the mountain & enjoy.

Near the top you will encounter the 'Evo' hairpin. (you'll be going in the opposite direction to my Chim)

When you get to Brynaman, go rightat the mini roundabout & follow on to the t junct'. Go left towards Pontardawe then follow the signs back to the M4.

If you want to go further, at the 483, go right to Builth, then follow the 470 then A44 to Aberystwith, then follow the coast road south to Aberaeron, then follow the 482, then go right at the A40 then left to Llangadog......

But that's just me. biggrin

Oh & I would take sandwiches...hehethumbup

Sounds spot on to me.
Suggest we try something like that on the next South West Wales Breakfast meet.
