As i said months ago, i'm all for this. The unenforced speed limit is dangerous in my opinion, and i'm never comfortable driving that stretch of motorway

If they had the scameras when the road works, that are supposed to be taking place, are on then no issue. But at the moment it is a joke. And scary. I understand from the gas and air shop press release that they are putting gantries in with variables for heavy traffic, that is not so bad. But to do 50 when my job relies on me having a clean licince is a joke at the moment, I hate to say it.

It would appear they have arrived - there's a Specs camera on the Eastbound westbound at J24 exit (?) Coldra. Not seen any others yet, but i'm sure it wont be long.

This is a crazy idea, all it means is that more and more people will use the coast road. How long until the speed cameras pop up there too!

Pretty soon all bloody cars will have a self limiting ECU. Lorries have them, so why not cars. Blame bloody NISSAN for installing the 112 MPH limiter on the GTR unless on track.

Actually lorries can go faster than the 56mph limit but they have to be going downhill or have the wind behind them to do it.

There`s a camera just before J24 westbound on the hard shoulder, looks like the average speed camera, but I could only see the one set.

Or they can have a kill switch or be a foreign lorry driver who does not give a rat's ass about anyone. Not all are like that, but the one that fell asleep, crashed into my 4x4 and nearly killed me was!

Been away for the weekend and on the way back the cameras have sprouted, look out folks, they`re out to get ya curse But as yet no signs warning of average speed checks.

Not a fan of average speed cameras - however - on this stretch of motorway, they can only be a good thing.

At the moment, it's just downright dangerous, with people sticking to the limits in the nearside lane, trucks pulling out to overtake them without signaling in the middle, and car drivers ignoring the limit in the offside lane.

You have speeds along this stretch varying from around 45mph to nearly 100mph at the moment. That's definitely not safe.

And when you get people doing 45mph in the middle lane being overtaken by people doing 45.1mph you then get the 100mph lot undertaking round the bends. They've made a complete mess of a perfectly good stretch of motorway.

I can see why they've done it where they're replacing the barriers, but on stretches were no work is taking place, it's a stupid limit.

Even the bends around the High Cross junction don't need a lower limit - they're perfectly safe at 0.8+ leptons, not that most drivers know that....

Noticed these on Friday when driving up to London - seems as if they've been busy.

Wonder if they'll put them in after junction 26...will need to watch my speed if that's the case!

if you go through one set of avrage speed cameras, just make sure you change lane before you get to the next, my uncle told me, he drives fast cars with blue lights ontop wink
Everyone has a 'mate' or 'family member' punting this kind of nonsense around.

I'm sure it has been revealed as urban myth many times over...

I live in Newport and gotta say even with fear of getting slated here that since the speed limit has been lowered there is a lot less delays. Why I don't know but the amount of hours I used to sit on that stretch of the M4 in traffic was unreal. So whatever the reason if it keeps the traffic moving then all for the best.
I would rather be moving in a 50mph limit than sat still in a 70
