Is anyone else fed up with the feckwits who don't know how to use the large roundabout after you come out of the Bute tunnels by the UCI cinema.

On 3 seperate occasions this week, someone in front of me has moved from the middle lane to the third lane and then gone straight on at the roundabout. 3 lanes do not condense easily into 2.

Its not difficult people:

Lane 1 - Left or straight on
Lane 2 - Straight on
Lane 3 - Third or more exit

Highway code tells you to use the appropriate exit where there are 3 or more exits off a roundabout, but this doesn't mean get in lane 3 to come off at 2nd exit (straight on), where 2 other lanes are also trying to exit roundabout.

The next person to do this and proceed to beep at me for being in their way, despite the fact that I am in the correct lane, and they are an absolute fecking moron, is going to get their horn shoved up their ass.

I have experienced that on a number of times in the morning rush hour (could probably even tell you the registration numbers as its the same t**ts every time).

I make a point of not letting them in when they come alongside (although in fairness if your coming from the Bay you can only access that lane as the two out of the tunnels are dedicated left etc but no way of telling they have come from that direction) and now tend to use the first lane as getting off under flyover anyway.

Also I have nearly been rear ended by someone because I had to slam my brakes for two cars in front of me coming side to side etc.

Roundabouts are one of my pet hates as well. Over the last ten years or so has seen the introduction of multi-lane roundabouts with dedicated lanes that go against the Highway Code rules for negotiating roundabouts. Blame the Government Departments. Unfortunately people then tend to use "normal" roundabouts in the same way and use wrong lanes or positioning. It just causes confusion. Ewenny roundabout in Bridgend is a classic case of how to screw things up, especially with 3 lanes and a multitude of traffic lights on a small roundabout.

Then you get the tw*ts who can't be bothered to use their indicators. Then there's the beige, red and green crap, the masses of white paint, and the overkill of road signs that are actually making our roads an eyesore. They don't seem to realize that "less is more".

It's good to have a rant!

That roundabout should have some sort of magnetic guidance system to keep the idiots at bay! I ususally just lean on the air horns and follow with hand signals!

yes Totally agree

I'm up and down that road 5 days a week and it drives me mad!

Also at the roundabout the other end (J33), its shocking how many idiots who are travelling West towards Llantristant/Bridgend etc that as they're travelling towards the roundabout, all decide to brake as they go down the left hand lane thinking they have to stop for traffic!
Now i'll agree i can't remember seeing too many signs that say its a continuous right of way lane right round the corner onto the slip road and granted in the right hand lane you have to stop to give way, but the amount of people who go up there every day and use that road will know you don't have to brake to go round it and yet they still do!!

Admittedly when its really busy, you're usually crawling along near that roundabout or there's a lot of idiots pulling in at the last minute, but i see people braking really hard in the left hand lane even when its really quiet!!

fking road is a disaster anyway!

Going on from Debbie's rant.

This morning I was in the queue around the corner from tunnels towards second roundabout in middle lane etc. I had a car on inside and then an articulated lorry came up in the third lane! We all pulled across roundabout at same time and lorry started to come in from third lane! Thank god guy inside was a bit slow as I had to dive to inside lane as there was no way Mr Lorry driver was going to stop (even if I did stop possible his trailer could have swiped my front). He didn't give it a second thought and would certainly have taken half of my car out! Now if I had been someone not used to that roundabout or not paying attenton no doubt could have been a serious accident.

roundabouts used to be so simple.

when they had 2 lanes on the entry left lane for straight on and left and the right one for going to the right.

It went wrong when they added 3 and 4 lanes to the entry, let the road markings completely wear away and people stopped indicating there intentions.

Amazed there wasnt a crash there yesterday morning.

When heading towards the bay down the link road, 2 cars ahead on me were in right hand lane - first car (which had been travelling at 40mph the whole way) didn't go straight right towards Red Dragon Centre, but continued into middle lane on roundabout and then decided to turn right (without indication).

The 2nd car (which had been undertaking and leaving no gap up the link road) went straight on towards the 2nd roundabout staying in right hand lane, having to brake hard and use its horn against the first car. Amazed there was no impact!

Got to have your wits about you and I use it everyday - only a matter of time someones does something stupid when I'm on it frown

Pfft. Coldra, now that is an accident waiting to happen.

Incidentally, anyone in the Bridgend area and knows the Ewenny roundabout? seems a report in the local rag says its going to be made into a cross roads........ Again. Appears someone fudged the reason why it has 21 (ish) poles of lights on it and making a roundabout that guessing a direction and squeezing 2 into 1 lanes here there and everywhere has finally sunk in as a bad idea???
Pity they are not just turning off the lights.

I know Ewenny roundabout very well. I actually try and avoid it as much as possible as it's definitely an accident waiting to happen. Three lanes around such a small roundabout is shear madness, put together with traffic lights on the roundabout,...it's really insane. The Council admitted they got it wrong but won't take all the bloody lights away. The roundabout works well when the lights don't work, but forget 3 lanes!

I've heard there's a huge scheme planned for turning the road into a dual carriageway between Badlands & Waterton. Don't know if it's got the go-ahead yet. Yeah, crossroads again, there's just so much money to burn!

Ewenny roundabout worked perfectly well before the traffic lights were installed. It's been totally fu£$ed up since.

Getting back to the link road / Bute Tunnel thing.... but then going slightly O/T ( smile ) - does anybody know what's happened to the Eastern section of the link road that has existed on that nice scale model in the Cardiff Bay Visitor Centre for years but has never been built??

Abercynon roundabout on the A470 is the one that gets my back up. In the mornings coming from the direction of Aberdare there are two lanes clearly marked left lane' A470 north and straight on whilst the right lane is for A470 south.

There is always a queue in the morning and even though there are traffic lights for busy periods nob heads cheat the queue (A470 south being the longer queue)by using the left lane then swapping lanes at the earliest opportunity cutting other users up.

When in the daily ride I will not let them get in front sod the damage they may cause although I would not take the risk in the SLK

Experienced the same thing today at roundabout in Bridgend town. Idiot tries to come into my lane when I'm already there and in front, then starts sounding his horn and waving his hand when HE'S in the wrong, I showed him the 22nd letter of the alphabet. Watching him in my rear-view mirror and he cuts across from outside to inside of next roundabout, what a complete idiot.

I live in Bridgend & have found Ewenny roundabout a nightmare, even without traffic lights. If it's busy, I'll get carved up, if it's quiet, then I'll still get carved up by some idiot that cant read the signs.
Also, Bridgend town.. why the hell is there a bus lane right through the centre so we can only drive through one way? Ever since that was created, which must be like 4 years ago now... I've only ever seen 1 or 2 buses using it & nothing else.

It's about time the council started fixing some potholes, or resurfacing roads that need to be done, not brand new roads like the dual behind Litchard which is being resurfaced for no apparent reason!

Rant over smile

Least with this latest round of Coldra improvements the marked lanes now spiral out correctly instead of being parallel, so you don't get people changing lanes all over the place.

part of the problem is that you do get alot of very slow hesitant people, especially when it's busy, everyone stops to check when they should be checking before they get there, if they used their brains then traffic would flow alot better and half the idiots wouldn't use the 3rd lane to go straight over

I come across many that I am not familiar with in my travels and despite what is the norm the local council mark roundabouts against the norm. So when I am hesitant around a junction because convention is ignored and I am trying to find my way whilst trying to get in the assigned lane assuming the locals are expecting me to. The bit that rankles is the locals who may use it everyday not giving quarter.

Still fun though whilst the works are on. Here is hoping.
