I have a 1983 Porsche 944 in Red.

due to unforeseen circumstances I think I will have to sell it. Any idea what they are worth?

Colour Red (re-sprayed last Nov)
All original parts
130k on the clock.
new MOT

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Also the Number plate is 944 YPH and I was offered £2000 for a few years ago, is there somewhere you can sell number plates for a good price?

Hi mate car model numberplates can be hard to sell, I have one that came with a previous car, and it has been on a website for ages and no takers at a very good price. I think that with current economy most plates will loose a lot of value.

These older cars are worth what anyone will pay for it and ebay tends to find it's own level and PH itself keeps posting sheds of the week which raise low expectations in terms of price. As for the plate, the problem is that the 944 is relatively old now so the significance of the 944 number is now only relevant to another 944 and YPH aren't common initials. Again, ebay might be your best bet.

Your best bet on price might be a classic car site rather than a general site if it's a really good example and a really good respray.

No idea about the number plate.

The 944 is a minefield when it comes to price. I looked at buying a 944 around 6 months ago and couldn't believe the difference in price variation for models of similar year and mileage. Gave up in the end as i got fed up of looking at early models that were priced with a fair amount of optimism and were crap.

Try putting an ad in the specialist publications like 911 & Porsche world or GT Purely Porsche to reach the Porsche public. Also i'd try the PH classifieds. I've sold a few items on PH (car, set of wheels etc) and have had great response.

If it's been sprayed and in good con you may get some luck (as LuS1fer said above) in the classic mags with someone looking for an early example.

As yours is an '83 i'm guessing it's a 2.5 pre oval dash, not as sought after as the oval dash but still a good daily runner. Try posting on the Porsche forum as a few 944 people hang around there.
