I recently bought a car with window tints.

I've never been a fan of the appearance, but when on the motorway etc. I could never figure out what car was behind me at night wink

They were a nightmare to remove!

If it was me I'd say no. But I know many people are fans of them.

Never had them before, but I recently got tints on my black X-Type - light smoke on fronts and dark smoke on rears and back window, after being offered a good price. I would avoid the limo black style.

I am very pleased with the look as suits black cars best IMO and also help reduce UV on the interiror and stop glass breaking in accidents of during theft supposedly...

Havn't had a problem with seeing out of them so far, but got them quite cheap so wasn't too worried and been quoted only £30 to remove them all, so wouldn't bother removing them yourself like Sean did laugh

Should suit a black new shape Type-R quite well, but I may be in the minority!

£30 I spent almost 2 hours with a bucket of soapy water and paint stripper scrubbing away!
Stillcouldn't shift the sticky stuff!!!

If your considering them you obviously like them?
Just take the plunge, worst case is £30 removal

Maybe check regarding the removal price with whoever you choose - the £30 was for removal on top of renewing the tints...maybe it will cost more ~ £100?

Also heard ammonia spray will take off the residue easily or just use a portable clothes steamer...luckily I like mine, so doesn't matter smile

Cheers fella! Email sent.

I've had them before and loved the difference they made. (Both black cars too).

I saw an orange ST being pulled by an unmarked Volvo for tints on the front side windows. Worth remembering that the FRONT side windows have to allow 70% light through which is a standard tint so anything more and you're asking for it. wink

I had tints on the side windows of my imported Corvette and they were plain dangerous but soon stripped off. I used a sharp Stanley blade edge to remove the glue.

The rears are a matter of taste - just watch for the electrical contacts on the HRW not being damaged. My own view is it is sometimes an invitation for the Police to stop you if they can't see the driver and it's a hot hatch.

I had to remove a few over the years and I always use a combo of stanley blade to get it started, plastic putty knife and petrol. It works out better to remove the door cards to avoit staining, or go easy with the petrol.

Take all precautions and do so at your own risk!

Cheers,
