Morning all,

Drove through to Swindon this morning, and not a little surprised to see permanent 50mph markers from the exit of the roadworks all the way to Newport! A 50 zone, all the way from Cardiff to Newport... c'mon, that's taking the mick!

From this article, it's the precursor to a new Active Traffic Management system that's due to come into play in 2010, but they've stuck the limit at 50 as a continuation of the widening that's going on now...

I was about to post the same. Its absolutely ridiculous, driving through there earlier felt quite dangerous as everyone was more interested in their speed than their driving.

I'm sure it wont be long before they're using scam vans to enforce it too.

Yeah! Seems to take an age to get from the Coldra to Cardiff now. And watch out for the new cameras after Tredegar Park towards Cardiff, hard to spot when plenty of lorries about.

Oh, er, is it? (not an arsey comment, more a confused "is it?")

http://wales.gov.uk/news/latest/090403speed/?lang=...

Looks like its for road works not permanent? From the link
"When the barrier work is complete it will be possible to reintroduce the national speed limit."

Although I have a pet hate of the sign controllers in South Wales, or is it that gas and air shop in Cardiff otherwise known as the Kremlin Senedd, pulling the strings? If a cow farts across the carriage ways they set the signs to 50.

From tother link, overhead gantries? That will mean speed cameras as per M42.

It seems the speed limit has been dropped from an NSL to 50 mph from Barry to Cardiff Airport, no idea why as I'm not aware of any accidents happening on that stretch of road.

just got into Cardiff via this new speed limit on M4 I was doing about 55 most of the time and felt like I was going backwards, even saw a few frustrated lorry drivers hassling drivers in the nearside lane just cos they are doing the limit. What a lot of folks forget is that it is a limit and not a target - not any consolation to the old woman with an arctic about 2Ft from her rear bumper his face looked like this mad

I wanted to post about this after driving back from Gloucester to Cardiff on Sunday. I thought the gantry signs were talking about upcoming roadworks, not a sweeping change from the NSL for no reason. I wasn't able to contain my despair, dismay and anger. Who decides these things? Who thinks it's OK to drag everyone back without explanation or justification?

That whole drive was packed full of limits that were clearly new and were lower than they needed to be. It makes me shout and spit phelgm to be driving on a wide open 50 limit road, yet to see an NSL sign leading off down a single track country lane. If judgement and discretion are allowed on that lane, why not everywhere else?! At this rate there won't be any need to lower the NSL as proposed - there'll be no NSL roads left.

(Oh, and while i'm venting, thanks for the 2p tax hike in fuel, you fking rapists.)
