so enlighten me as a person who has no desire to even look at a volvo twice let alone step inside one, why are they so good in your opinion?

because they are understated and there speed is never expected plus cant think of any other car in there price range that is as quick as it with the same level of comfort and equipment level plus you can fit everyone and your kitchen sink in it

Like Ben i don't get it either.

Everyone and their dog knows about the Volvo T5's, it's a bit like the Octavia VRS - everyone knows.

How much are they? £2k?

Never had one but the older I get, the more I think I need one. Seriously though, I like them although the AMB plate switches my mind to "ambulance" and I start imagining it as a Ghostbusters car. So who you gonna call?

my mates dad used to have an old 2.3litre turbo volvo estate (this was on top of having an aston martin DB9 and a porsche boxsterS) and it was a great car. understated, had plenty of power...and was very, very comfy. they are not my sort of thing, granted; however, i know why people go for them. the volvo which he has now sold (for an RS4 estate, slightly more power!!) had over 205k miles on the clock, and the engine was still strong.

I like then myself, ok a little bit like a box, but a hell of a lot of car for what was probably not a lot of money, looks good;)

I think the touring car idea is great too, not so understated thoughbiggrin

Old Boss of mine used to have a C70 T5 , rapid in a straight line! I found the steering used to bob about a bit, but not as bad as My Caterham biggrin

for £2k you would get aa good condition v70 t5 or 850R but this 850 t5 above is only costing me £500 and as far as everyone knowing about them i think your wrong there its shocked the hell out of a number of people i have given lifts to. but its each to there own theres many a quick car out their that i wouldnt ever consider and bmw's are just one of them

I'm with you all the way. Petrolheads know about them but your average driver won't. £500 is a bargain, got any more?

I can see the novelty/fun factor for £500, the fact that police use Volvo's kind of marks them out as being a touch quick hence the everyone knows comment.

£500 is great, it would make for a great striped out track car, you could probably shed 2-300kg since they usually have tons of extras that add a lot of weight. A decent set of springs and tyres would improve handling 100% too. I have been looking around at potential track cars, just for a bit of fun, but never considered a T5. Worth thinking about!

One more thing i like about them is value for money even without stripping it out you can can pick one for under a gand spend say 2k on mods then wave bye bye to most 30k+ sports cars as they vanish in your rearview mirror biggrin

I like it mate! Colour's different but its a bargain and a good car.

A friend of mine, his parents had one when i was in school. It was a normal petrol engine, 1.8 or 2.0 i think and a saloon, but other than it being a bit boxy it was great, always very smooth, comfy and had electric everything. I've always preferred the estates and obviously the T5 is a great sleeper.

As mentioned on your intro thread, i'm currently looking at buying a V70 estate, which seem to be a bargain as well.
