Hello people wavey

I know this is my first post but im after some advice.

Basically I'm looking for a company to install and setup some Coilovers.
I'm based in Abergavenny (South Wales) so the closer the better but obviously i have no problems with travelling.

So if you lot have any suggestions or first hand experience that would be great.

Thanks thumbup

Hello wavey

You could try asking Heath Tyres in Cardiff or maybe http://www.osaka-autodesign.com/ I think their workshop is in Newport.

I can't think of any specific 'suspension specialists' round here, but I'm sure someone else will know of one smile

Don't use Mototec in Pontllanfraith. They used half my clutch going on and coming off the ramp, caned the tits off my car up the road after, whilst cold. I've got a 470 BHP 200sx. Had the car on my ramp to carry out some other work and check it over and found several of the locking collars for the adjusters lose. They also fiddled with my remote keyfobs so much that they lost their coding. The only response I got to all of this when confronted about it was total indifference. But the alignments not too bad. If my kit hadn't broken I could have done it better in half the time but hey is that really the point!

Is he the one you mentioned at the Breakfast Club?

I'll make sure to give them a call once I get my new suspension.

Cheers,

There website is www.tsl-motorsport.co.uk, although they specialse in Subaru & Mitsubushi they are very well experienced with all makes of car. Worth a go imho.

I had the same Problem here. The young lad they gave my keys to clearly could not drive and stalled my TVR 5 times and used half the clutch trying to get on the ramps , i then had to take the car back to have it redone as they set the rear too low, i was not happy. also cost me too much, when i could have taken it to orchard motors in newport for a 3rd of the cost, and he would have only needed to do it once.
also Dave Knows The 200SX well !!

Apologies for post hijack but I too have recently had a bad experience at Mototec Pontllanfraith.

I took my vehicle there to have a full geometry check as they are one of the nearest Hunter equipped alignment centres and have had a recomendation from a poster on here.

I have my alignment checked on all three of my vehicles at every tyre change and will only use a Hunter or KDS equipped centre to complete the work.

Upon set up of vehicle (and traversing the 'deep ravine' in front of ramp!) I did a visual check of steering wheel and noticed that it was a couple of degrees out which I mentioned to the operator. He then adjusted the wheel from outside of vehicle i.e. through the drivers window. Now anyone reading this will know that there is no way you can get a true perspective of the orientation of the wheel from that position.

I then mentioned that on these vehicles (and many others)there is a datum mark on the column and steering rack that when lined up ensure dead centre rack positioning.(been used on all previous checks).

This was disregarded and operator continued with check.

Upon setting of front wheel camber I noticed that there was a discrepency in the side to side settings albeit small and still within 'green' sector.

I mentioned this (even though by now I felt like a right Victor Meldrew!)and the reply was, 'it's close enough'.

That did it for me and by now I'd lost all confidence in this establishment and thought just finish and let me go.

I paid the bill and noticed my vehicle being driven up the road, now this was a surprise as using the Hunter equipment means that a road test is not necesary after the check.

The operator came back and put the vehicle back on the ramps! Guess why - the wheel wasnt straight!

So, rather than re doing the check using the equipment I had paid for the 're alignment' was completed using a bog standard laser set up. I voiced my objection to this but it fell upon deaf ears and they carried on regardless.

So, by now I just wanted to get from there and on the journey home I noticed guess what? Yes, the bloody wheel wasnt straight!

After a phone conversation with the proprieter I was offered to bring the vehicle back(!!) or a refund, which I accepted.

I am not in the habit of 'naming and shaming' if I am not happy with a service I have payed for but on seeing the other posts I thought I would share with you all my experience.

Well I know of one other person that has had a poor experience but he was not too vocal in the forum about it.
I do note though in another topic that it was said by mototec "Bloody right we want to make money do you work just for the smiles". To me this is a clear indication of the wrong attitude to run a business with. If you believe your work to be good mototec why have there been so many poor stories.
It would seem to me that the best thing you could do here is take this as feedback, and identify that you clearly have a internal training issue. I could see this when I was watching your mechanic work.
You can make money and still make people smile. The perfect example is Charlie at Prospeed. I recommend him to everyone. If you're ever not quite happy with the work he sorts it FOC and without fuss. I will keep recommending him as he is a very sound bloke that gives the confidence that he knows what he is doing. He makes money and puts a smile on my face when I leave his establishment.
It was a shame after your second attempt at my car that I did not have the confidence to bring it back to you, I had to take it to Orchard Motors to finally get the setup corrected. He completed the work in 35 mins at a quarter of the money I handed over to you.

You really need to sit back and think about what people are saying. Take it as constructive critisim !! or you will never have people come back to you to have work done.
Dave at Orchad motors has my business for geo set up.
Charlie for my exhausts.
Dilwin at Promax for my gearbox work.
Motor torque in caldicot for general work, MR2 work and MOT.
Mustoes for spray and paint.

All of the above businesses are tried and tested and have always sent me away feeling confident that they have done a good job.
