As most of us are finding out, the cold weather is bringing some really bad driving conditions and even the most experienced drivers are being caught out. I was driving to work this morning and saw 2 very nasty accidents and heard about another on the radio on the way there!!

1 - J34 Roundabout. Going down the A4119 from Llantristant towards the roundabout is always busy in the mornings, but on this occasion i could see flashing blue lights in the distance. As i get to the roundabout, ready to filter left towards the M4 westbound, i could see a Police car stuck out on one part of the roundabout and then a Vauxhall Vectra with its front end crashed into the central barriers across the M4 and facing the wrong way!!

2 - Turning off the J33 roundabout towards the ely link road (A4232) and the guy on the radio tells of a 4 car crash at J32 Coryton! - with big delays!

3 - Every morning, the link road at culverhouse cross the traffic slows due to the amount of cars coming on at culverhouse cross and joining the link road round the bend. This morning, no exception. Except the slow traffic (stop start, 1st and 2nd gear) went all the way down to Leckwith and then past it. Only when i got past Leckwith did i realise why! On the other side of the road was another police car blocking the inside lane. Next to him was a Black Mini, with major damage to it, including the front side windows at a strange angle to the roof and the roof looking like it was about to cave in! The car was also facing the wrong way! The stupid thing is that all the traffic on our side was as bad as it was, all due to everyone stopping to have a look!! Shocking! (By then, we were barely crawling along, so i like everyone else had plenty of time to look at the accident!)

I'm sure there was another accident too, but i can't remember what it was.

Anyone else get caught up in any of those this morning?

Drive carefully guys smile

One of my colleagues had a fender bender this morning on Penarth Road. She was in a Volvo C30 and was rear-ended at the lights by an R-reg Astra.

Her C30 has a large scuff mark on the rear bumper that may polish out, at worst a re-spray. The guy's Astra requires a new front bumper, pair of lights and a bonnet. That'll teach him hehe

Stuff about accidents
We must do a similar route, I saw both of those this morning, I also had to nip into the bay asda for some milk, and on the slip road back onto the a4232 there was a new shape MG facing the wrong the way in the hedge, how he got there I'm still trying to work out, he couldn't have been going that fast to lose it that badly.

not noticed any today, noticed the roads were exceptionally slippy last night, coming round a roundabout, and all off a sudden the whole car just went left towards the wrong way up the dual carriageway, no back end stepping was wierd, especially at 20mph, everything slows down in those situations anyways, but christ i got bored "oooh im going sideways.......come on, stop it, got st to do....thank you" lol

then packed my car on a slab of ice where some muppet had washed there car....didnt notice i was parked on ice...untill i went to set off and panic set in, as i wasnt moving, the tcl was going nuts the ayc diff was throwing a flakey, then i heard the vrrrrrrrrr of wheels spinning on ice....

then noticed a few people loose it on a few bends, saw a good one, someone came around sharp right hand bend, ready to turn left into housing estate, back end stepped out, he corrected...over corrected, car spun 180, caught it, reversed down the road as such then on the right side of the road, just going the wrong way....stopped, looked around shrugged his shoulders and carried on as if nothing happened

Not too bad yesterday, but Tuesday was very interesting on the roads.

My car is tail happy at the best of times, so I drove according to the conditions and made the journey to and from work fairly uneventfully (going 'round roundabouts at 10mph lol). But I passed a number of casualties along the way:

Barons Court traffic lights on Penarth Road - someone clearly didn't make the right hand turn and ended up front end damaged against concrete central reservation, air bag went off and driver simply abandoned car where it was causing chaos for other road users turning to go from Cogan down to Cardiff Bay. Two lanes were suddenly becoming one and people were struggling to brake and filter in together.

Dinas Powys lanes, accident on sharp bend involving bus. As we were all turning around to find an alternate route, I noticed the car in front of me had his front bumper hanging off dragging along floor, damage to passenger headlight and wing, so he was having an interesting drive to work.

Road that goes from Barons Court down to Bay, traffic lights with Morrisons on right hand side of you, someone clearly couldn't stop and had slid through the lights onto central concrete reservation.

What I did notice is that all the cars involved were front wheel drive. Maybe these people are less used to having their car try to slide and having to catch it than those with rear wheel drive. Certainly, a lot of my work colleagues commented on me bringing my car to work on such an icy day.

Tuesday morning I did a 360 on black ice in my works L200 off the Nathanial roundabout in Bridgend, 3 other went off all hitting the others in the hedge! I was lucky I half caught the initial slide but then must have gripped completely throwing the car in opposite direction and went up a wide grass verge in central res, missing a lampost by 4 foot, rear wheel hit kerb so a puctured rear, but this was 11:30 in the morning?
Until the temp rises the Caterham is staying in the garage!!
Drive carefully !

I know! Down here in Carmarthen that's all I'm seeing! I been caught up in 3 queues on the motorway due to smashes(one where a car was on its roof..) Its crazy! I think people don't realise just how bad the roads are, I'm doing steady speed down the motorway at -1 degrees to -5 and the next thing a small hatch will pass me doing about a tonne! Haha! Everyone watch out, there's no real fun on the roads at the moment, especially on the roundabouts wink

My wife was telling me yesterday that there was a stream of cars spinning on the Brown & Lennox roundabout coming off the A470 in Pontypridd. Three of her work colleagues spun 360 one of them resulting in wheel damage.

On the way home from work this afternoon i passed a transporter carrying what looked like the remains of a blue hatchback (not much left of it) and a blue 996 convertible that had sustained heavy damage. Possibly a result of less than favourable road conditions (or not).

I have had a few 'moments' in the mornings on the way too work (6am start so quite light on the traffic) so have slowed down a fair bit. Plus i'm not using the 911 as i'm pretty confident it'd be a nightmare on the ice.

I'm driving the Westfield to Interpro in Bristol tomorrow morning, thankfully the weather forecast is not predicting freezing temperatures. All I've got to cope with is greasy roads and dirty driving conditions then. First priority when I get back is to give it a bloody good clean and remove all the salt - oh, and warm myself up.

I 90'd my van on tuesday morning on nantgarw roundabout (A470 One). luckily, I managed to correct it enough. If somebody were on my inside, i prob would have taken them out. The maddning thing was that I Had only just pulled off from the hill, doing max 15 mph. Later that morning, there was a smash in identical place. there was a also then a 4 car shunt in the outside lane on coryton - taffs well junction prob caused by 'rubber neckers' watchin the accident on opposite side.

what are some people doing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UUUURGH

It's people simply going too fast. It's cold out there and there is not much grip. I can feel the steering lightening up on roundabouts so slow to compensate. (10-20mph if needed) I then cringe when I see another car come up the inside and start twitching all over the shop a couple of feet away from me.

The cars parked in the barriers are the results of people not paying attention, and there seem to be sodding loads of them!

Yes, usually what it is, but I think its also because most people are fking clueless in newport cardiff area, woman I almost booshed when she drove through the traffic lights, or the guy that turned ou the bingo hall, and drove up the wrong side of the road

I have even found my car very twitchy, and also found the back of my car will step out very easily, and is very easy to correct, looked cool though, turned right onto a road with a big open junction where i live, which i know is quite slippy, so did it quite cautiously....back end just stepped out, mainly because i let off the throttle so the AYC didnt do much, stepped out, started pointing to some guys car door, quick bit of opposite lock and booted it...ayc kicked in nicely , stepped out slightly again, then wiggled back in line.

wasnt even going fast either

What idiots on the road today! I went to the Piston Heads show, and on the way back must have seen more idiots on the roads than I ever have! The roundabouts were exceptionally slippery, as quoted above, you need to do 10-15mph really! As the back stepped out a few times with me. And I had a ford mondeo hitting the round about about 40-50! Going all shapes (rather funny to watch) but not when their exciting alongside you.

Black mitsunishi pick up thingy? If so my missus says she was behind you in a Corolla and didn't spin so she must be the new Seb Loeb! She was probably doing 3mph.
