Heads up! A470 scammers...after dark!
Discussion
Yes, the credit crunch is hurting them too!
Due to the fact that most people are sticking to the speed limit to save on fuel, they've had to raise the bar to justify their jobs.
They are now using scam vans after dark: first bridge southbound after the Nelson/Aberdare roundabout.
Just how they "form prior opinion" from anything up 1000m, in the dark, is beyond me but I'll put it down to a high carrot intake and superhuman judgement.
Be careful out there!

On the A1079 between Beverley and Hull, a known hot spot for camera van activity, I came across another first for me three Thursday evenings ago. Two camera vans operating approximately 2 miles apart at the same time along the same stretch of road, both in 30 zones just at the end of 40 zones and both north facing, not that it makes a difference, but the intention is to catch those not slowing into the 30 zone soon enough.
You pass the first camera van and you assume you're in the clear, but this is a nasty ploy knowing this road is notoriously frustrating to many with its too slow speed limit along its entire length. In other words this is a prime target area for 'normal' driving conditions that can and do every day, see motorists drifting slightly above the posted limits. The police are taking advantage of the situation along this stretch of road.

I know its a bit off topic, but today I saw a scamera motorbike above the M4 nr the junction for the Outlet village. (Yes it was a scamera - it had the sign up, presumably it was the lid of a pannier box)
Yes SWP have one. He wanders around the area zapping people when he should be doing something more useful .... like escorting Rhodri Welsh Assembly to his next function.
BTW- They're back on the A470 in the dark again. Be careful out there!

I thought I was clocked here not so long ago, the 14 days were up last tuesday, so it looks like I'm ok. The m'way was also down to 50 at this spot for a two lane reduction which didn't start until after Pencoed (go figure). I've also seen this motorbike cam at the Llanishen end of Roath Park Lake.
