can anyone help - I'm having to get rid of my 21 turbo. It has been sat on a drive (not even started) since the MOT about 4 1/2 months ago. I looking at scrapping it, as it had a couple of advisories and as these havent been fixed since and I dont have time to fix them, the car needs to go. The car itself is possibly worth more in parts than sold as a whole car.

Will a scrappy just give me money for it? or is there a fee I have to pay for scrapping the car?

Can anyone suggest someone to me who to take it to...

Cheers

Matt

A neighbour of mine has just scrapped his old Rover. If he had driven it to the scrappy he would have got £60 for it, but it was collected with no cash exchanging hands. They did let him take parts off it that he thinks he can sell himself.

Negotiated over the phone I think as they came to collect it. The car was not taxed insured etc.
Scrap metal is now around £260 a tonne, so you shouldn't have to pay someone to take a car away.

In the back of the Cardiff Echo there's always adverts from at least 3 firms offering a minimum £100 or so for your car to scrap it.

Yeah seen them a few times right next to the cars for sale under £500 funnily enough. Or was it in the Western Mail? Well it was definitely one of them!

I'm about to buy the echo today so I'll let you know in half an hour or so.

There's no less than 10 scrappies on page 38 of todays Echo. Best one looks like £125 minimum. The rest seem to be £100 minimum. Better than a kick in the balls.

yeah - but i may end up getting more for it as scrap than selling it on to an enthusiast. Plus I dont have the means to break it myself

This topic was on fifth gear this week. They bought an Astra for £150 private and sold it at auction to a scrappy for £230!!!

Its something to do with the increased industrial development in the East and demand for raw materials like steel.

A scrappy will bite your hand off for the 21, the bigger the car the better!
