Is it me or are the signs turned on at every opportunity that safety concerns present (as perceived by unnamed bureaucrats, probably the gas and air shop in Cardiff). Lets say a gnat farting in Porthcawl, sign controllers get panicky over wind and set signs to 50. Bit of damp in the air, signs to 50. Getting dark at night, sign 50. This is starting to get annoying.

Usual commute from Coventry to home. Hit Newport and the weather iffy, signs on. Its one of those things I have been noticing more recently. Problem is, people will start to ignore it and when a real emergency needs the speed down, it won't happen.

Yep exactly, especially when they're then left on for hours after the danger has cleared.

I would like to know what the danger was. It is one of those things that dawn on you after a while. Drive around the UK on other M ways and the same conditions do not gat the signs on. I should add here they are the ones in the central reservation not the ones that tell you when it's foggy in a pea souper.

I was driving up the M4 in the rain today suffering a 40mph limit and constant signs telling me there was water on the surface of the road.

F**k me, I wondered what that wet stuff was on the road. Thank god they thought to let me know it was water...I would never have guessed!

Oh, and it was so much safer with all those people doing 35mph in the middle lane with no lights on! Thank god for the M4 sign controllers. Cocks

I was on the M4 yesterday as well. I was amazed at how many people didn't have any lights on.

The matrix signs are only recommendations and not legally binding.

That said... if you had a bump at 70 when they were set at 50...

Aye but the thing is they seem to be on a mission of "we know best". Breezy days appear to get the treatment as well.
