Well i don’t have one for sale but a few years back i was in the same boat as you... Had just over a grand and wanted fun cheap RWD and nippy. A mate said about an MR2 and I did not really fancy it TBH. But they are FUN and addictive. you can mod them to get the best out of the engine. Common faults are common but minor. e.g. mirrors start to wobble, roll bar bush mounts rot on the front after 12 years unless its an import but cheap to fix, keep an eye on the sills at the rear, putting bigger wheels on with low profile will kill old standard shocks but this should apply to most cars. i have had 5 now and cant seem to get away from them, every time i sell it to be sensible i end up buying another.

If you would like to come for a ride in mine .ooooH er. PM me. i will take you for a spin
I can advise you on what to look for too, If you choose to get one.

Thanks for the advice Matt, I've considered the MKII MR2.

Is this a Rev2 or 3? It's a 93. I've heard the Rev 3 handles better.

There was an Mr2 for sale for peanuts in the garage in Llantwit Fadre on the same estate as BESST tyres last week. Might still be there. Think it was under 2k.

Rev 3 does handle better as a standard car but after the years they get modded so it suits the drivers driving and does not really matter. to work out the rev of the one in the pic it would be best going on the year, it maybe a rev 2 import. the brake size is a give away, im not 100% sure about this one. but must only come in Red, yellow black or white. grey yuk.

oh and you have mail.

I'm currently in the same boat, looking for 1.5K motors that are nippy, fun and with a decent amount of poke.
Mainly comes down to preference but i would look at VW Golfs. Either the iconic Mk2, slightly fatter Mk3 16v and VR6 are all in the budget.
MR2's are ace until you need to go shopping or on holiday. Other jap stuff includes Celica GT and Civic Vtec's. However, jap stuff of this era tends circum-navigate the idea of stylish interiors IMO.

One of the problems is that I refuse to travel miles and miles at this price point and I'm finding the market limited in the Cardiff area.

That looks quite nice. Can you tell me more about it (mileage, history etc)

I would widen the net but after wasting 90+ mins of my time looking at a bit of a dog in Monmouth I'm reluctant to travel much.

Some local MR2's seem interesting...

Why did I cancel my insurance on my last car? I forgot I'd need it to test drive any private sales!

granite silver metallic
160k miles
mot and tax till december
lot of history inc service book, old mot's, bills etc
silver leather
genuine m3 kit
genuine m3 boot spoiler
hagus m3 mirrors
clear front and side indicators
pas, electric windows an sunroof, remote alarm

i need to change the exhaust on it this week - ive got a mint 328i Sport one to go on.

its actually got an Alpina B2.5 plaque on it, im waiting to hear from Sytners if its real or someones imagniation.

Drives really well, no untoward noises, excellent clutch.
Returns around 33mpg on a run
ive had 9 x E36's now (all 325i and 328i) - this one feels quicker through the gears than any of the others ive owned.

downsides (most cars have some)
n/s wing has some rust showing under the paint
couple of small paint blemishes - nothing though you wont find on most similar age cars

oh yeah and it can be test driven on my insurance.
and its HPI clear

Any mechanically minded people in Barry fancy checking out a Primera GT in Burch Car Sales for me?!

120k and no history isn't that promising though to be fair.

Very.

No the last post was tongue in cheek. I don't actually expect anyone to look at a car for me.
