Hi chaps,

I'm off Wales next weekend to support one of my sisters doing the 10k and we're looking for a nice hotel to stay in.

I fancy staying near or in Cardiff with the following if possible:
- good/safe parking
- location with easy access to the city (coming from the M4 but will be in Maesteg in the day seeing family)
- preferably somewhere nice and not a chain (Ibis, Holiday Inn etc)

I'm going with my g/f and my other sis and was planning on a night out too - a bit to eat and maybe a couple of nice bars - any recommendations?

Any tips would be apprecaited.

If it helps, we're all in our early to mid 30's.

Thanks in advance

Parking is the problem. Holiday Inn (but not meeting your requirement) by the castle has parking. Holiday Inn express has parking. Copthorne but way out of town. Park Inn (ex Jurys) has parking but limited but they do have a service bay. Best contact them. McDonald looks good but not sure of the parking. Novotel city center is the ex Hanover, ex Cardiff Bay and is pretty good. Forget the Novotel label, they bought it recently. Probably think of a few more later.

ETA Thistle right in the center. Limited parking. St Davids hotel and Spa. Arm and a leg prices but looks superb and on the bay. Angel Hotel, near the holiday Inn and limited parking.

As you're limited with time and availability, what about a nice B&B?

Check out any on Cathedral Road. I recommended some friends there recently who came down from Lincolnshire for a stag weekend and suited them perfectly. Think they got a B&B on that road with ensuite and breakfast for £25! They were looking at the cheaper end of the market, but there are nice places there.

Its a nice road, very easy access to town and not to hard to find coming into the city.

HTH

If you're looking for something decent I'd say St Davids or even The Vale! Admittedly The Vale is a little way out of town (JCN 34, M4) but it's still only £20 in a cab!!

St Davids is a 5* hotel. i have stayed there it is very nice. £180 a night for suite overlooking the bay and it has valet parking so just get out at the front door and they take care of your car in a secure car park.

Plenty of bars and restaurants in the bay all just 3 mins walk away.

I stayed there very nice but expensive, think i paid £225 for 1 night like you said very nice over looking the bay and its got a lovely spar with sauna and the pool is nice and hot, but the bit i found funny was i paid over £200 and the so called valet parking was extra didn't find out until i come down in the morning to pay, ended up not paying it because i knew nothing about it and refused, your supposed to get some welcome pack before you arrive in the post but i booked for the next day so didn't get one, they let me off in the end so i can't remember how much but all that cash for one night and they want money to valet park your car too rip off imo.....

Chaps,

Update - stayed in Central Cardiff and spent Sunday at the Vale, with the added entertainment of a golf tournament!

Where we stayed was fine but next time, 100% I will be staying at the Vale. Beautiful place.

Thanks to each of you for all your help.

I live 5 mins down the road from the vale and its like you said a beautiful place, even though i live down the road me and the misses go now and again for a night away from the kids,
All the football teams and stars stay if they come to wales and of course the st davids hotel, stayed in both! st davids is over rated and over priced the vale is the best out of all the hotels i've stayed in, hope you had a nice time in gods country...
