Well just about a year ago I bought my 1984 928s2 manual in a not very pretty state. Mechanically sound but cosmetically dire (really badly faded red paint, kerbed alloys, tired leather condition etc). So I get her home park up and decide a plan of action.
First thing, P/U's off, glass out etc and off for a re-spray, order loads of new rubber trim, sunroof seal yadda yadda. Car returns not happy with paintwork so send it back, returns again, top job. Put it all back together after re-painting all window trims and things (I havent messed about doing this car, all done properly). All interior as far as possible out and leather renovated and treated. Door panels off intermittent window problem cured. New decals to switches etc etc. I think you get the picture by now.
Engine, full oil service and other fluids inc gearbox, new set of leads, plugs dist caps rotors.
Xpipe fitted, stainless strut brace (both Dr A). Wheels sorted.
New Becker CD and speakers
So all in all now a very nice car which due to the fact that its 24 years old will always be a running ongoing project but still very nice.
Anyway I drove it properly yesterday for the first time did probably 150 miles on lovely roads. The car handles wonderfully and the torque is great so when in 4th or 5th you can just roll on/off the throttle. A slight hesitation still at certain revs but i'll sort that. typical 928 manual gearbox which I must say I really don't like at all and to be honest (don't shoot me) think I would be better off with an auto.
So whats up with me? The car now looks lovely, its the right spec, drives and handles really well (aside from the hesitation), sounds fantastic and really turns heads. But...............
I am thinking of selling it. Why? I dont know. Could it be that a car like this is high maintenance and I don't know whether I want it? Could it be that I just want something slightly more modern and less 'sporty' as im getting older? Or am I just fickle?
Suggestions on a postcard
Mike

You're not just bored now there is nothing left to do to it? I would just drive it and enjoy it. Or buy another one and do the same again. You must have learnt some short cuts etc. I got very close to buying one myself a couple of years ago but was put off by a local specialist because of running costs.

After all the time and effort you have put into the 928 it is now time to enjoy it. But at a guess and it's only a guess, that might be the problem. Now that everything* is done the pace of the project has slowed considerably. I have friends and work mates that have suffered similar dilemma's in the past, it's the building/repairing/restoring of the car that makes up most of the enjoyment. Once the project is completed' a large amount of that enjoyment has been taken away and it's only natural that if you enjoyed the tinkering first time around another project would give this much enjoyment again. I'd say give yourself some time, say 4 months and see how you get on. I think that would be enough time to work out if you want to sell it on to fund another project or buy a more modern sports car etc.

As for running one, it would scare me to death. I've had some fantastic bill's for the 993 but from what i have heard and read the 928 is on another level. But that said it is still regarded by many as one of the greatest cars Porsche ever built and you have already put a lot of work in so you will know it quite well.

What ever happens while you have it enjoy it.

Seam to have got carried away using the word 'Enjoy' biggrin
