Double Glazing Advice - Who and How much?

Hey all

Need some advice on UPVC double glazing. Wife and I have a 2 bed Semi and the windows are shot on the ones upstairs. The house is currently double glazed with wood frames, but clearly v.poor quality.

Not sure on the costs involved or who to try. Would prefer to use people/companies recommended by others in our area, get quotes and advice and go from there.

Can't recommend anyone in your area, but we did have a large lounge window replaced and 2 small ones (With Fire Escape Facility) using Pilkington self cleaning glass. Also one upvc solid cottage door (with small double glazed rectangle).

All were in woodgrain on both sides and they came to £2,700.

However we actually ended up only paying £1,800 for one reason or another.

Guys, anyone in South Wales got any recommendations? Think i may just ring a few companies and get some quotes, but if anyone can recommend people too, that would be great.

I'd go for one of the better quality German ones like Rehau or Schuco. Had half my house done in Rehau (Dunraven in Pyle) but they were put in by my builder. That was 2 years ago, & will probably have the rest done in the same.

Get like for like quotes from at least 3 companies.

When I built my house anglian ultra 2 windows were by far the best quality ones I could find. They need to be pushed a bit for a good price (far from the cheapest) but I can't really comment on how good at fitting they were as they only had to fix the windows to the holes for them in the timber frame. If it wasn't for them phoning me for a decision most days I'd have no problem recommending them.

I've been told to avoid Everest and Dunraven and i have emailed Zenith windows and Safe Style Uk.

A rep from Safe Style is coming over tomorrow night to give us a quote.

sorry to hijack this thread but we have single glaze plastic windows,was wonderingare you able to buy double glazed glass and put that into these windows?
