I am looking for some advice on where to get a helmet for the tvrcc track day at Castle Combe next month. Live in Cardiff so somewhere nearby would help as I would like to try a few on for size. Also wondering if anyone knows where you can get a decibel check done on your car as the limit at Combe is 99db! My car is a Griff 500 with precats removed what do you think?

Yep, another up for hein gericke here. Don't go there in a rush though 'cos they like you to wear the lids in shop for a wile to make sure your happy. As Sorento said their at the end of Wellington St.

Thanks guys, Hein Gericke is a two minute walk from where I live so I'll check it out today, just need to make sure it has the correct safety rating. Any ideas on the sound testing?

I have a noise meter, if you want to come a bit further up Canton I'll check it with you.
Mail me and I'll tell you where I am.

Im pretty sure any helmet they sell will have the little gold sticker of British Motorcycle Sport ACU approved wgich, as far as im aware will be good enough for any trackday use. Competition rules will most likely have a different spec.

Seems to be a bit of an issue with the motorcycle helmets in that (sensibly) they all conform to the European Standard; the trackday requirement is British Standard/Snell, so I'm a bit worried about falling foul of any daft regulations on whats allowed. My trackday paperwork only lists BS/Snell as being whats required..... So I don't want to buy a bike helmet until I'm sure it's allowed.

I have done 20+ trackdays and have never had anyone check my helmet (oohh err missus! biggrin )

That said a decent helmet is a must but if you are only doing trackdays a good bike helmet will be fine. I would recommend getting a full face one though. A big crash with an open face helmet will still make a bad mess of your face.

I got mine from Bevans Motorcycles on Hadfield Road who gave some very good advice on fitting. If you do want a proper Motorsport helmet then go to Merlin Motorsport (who are in one of the buildings within Castle Combe circuit - just call them to make sure they are open on the day). They have a great range and will offer advice on fitting.

Good mate. It goes in to Dick Turpins for its first service on Monday.

Whats happening at Pembrey on the 27th? Wont be up for a track day as I'm in France for a day at Abbeville the week before with the Lotus boys but might pop down for a look.

Motorsport Events track day. Don't really know too much about it as I've not driven Pembrey as of yet, but it's all booked! I've recently sold the E30 but, if everything goes according to plan, it'll be the first outing for the new toy!! smile
