Mods, S Wales issue so I am asking in here rather than computers etc.

Ladies and Gents, anyone suffering poor reception from the Wenvoe transmitter with particular reference to an analogue tuner with a built in digital after the analogue? I appear to be suffering low signal on the digital side but other freeview tuners in other kit are all fine. Analogue is fine as well.

This site may have already answered my question??

Mines not pointing at Wenvoe, crap old aerial has been up there since i moved in but i have had NTL or Sky but have Freeview built in to my TV, normally get a good reception, tried it earlier and i had very bad reception so i dont think it is just Wenvoe suffering.

Hmm. Telly is only a few years old but its a CRT so its buy booster time to see if it is that. I don't know how accurate the link above is as to power output. Had the lid off and the digital tuner sits after the analogue. Guessing there is enough of a drop in sig strength after the analogue to upset it with a lower mast output where the other units are digital only.

Hi

Have you got any form of measuring equipment?

Is the poor digital signal a new problem or has this always been the case?

Do you know what aerial/rig you currently have set up?

Dawned on me before after I went on leave that I have a bit of kit available. Spectrum Analyser, but I don't have it to hand. Problem is recent, last two months tops. New aerial five or so years ago. Previous owners had a fopping great one in the attic space. Pick up Russian TV with that beasty if I put it on the roof. Well, maybe not but it was big. The site I linked to above seems to indicate there is a low power issue and there is another mast going/gone up next to Wenvoe. Maybe it's for worker safety on the new one?

Had the back of the telly off and the analogue tuner sits before the digital tuner. Other devices only having a digital tuner. I have tried the telly direct and no joy. Chat with a friendly TV repair man seems to confirm its the analogue sucking the dB's out of the signal before the digital gets it. Hence the question for S Wales PHeaders if they have a similar set up with similar issues.

This site could be of use too - http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/

You can see what Mux's you may be able to get in your area, obviously it will vary but could be of some help...

If you've got access to a Spectrum analyser (are you in the trade then?) I'd have a play about with that. See what levels you've got coming off the aerial, then do the same down at the socket.

Whats the anaolgue picture like?

I'd start off with getting the spectrum analyser out so you can start fault finding smile

Yeah, been to that site. Not in the installation trade, hence the question to see if anyone has a similar problem. Thing is, without a comparison or expected levels I don't know if when I plug the spectrum up the levels indicated are what they should be for this area and transmitter output and geography and all that. Hoping someone could just confirm that with a analogue and digital built in they are getting the same issues.

Min Analogue 60dbuv
Max Analogue 80dbuv

Min Digital 45dbuv
Max Digital 65dbuv

If you've got decent signals, I can't see your TV losing, say, 10dbuv.

Anyway
Good luck smile
