Gents, the handbrake and I are moving from Pontypridd (Coed-y-Cwm if anyone knows it) to Newport. Problem is neither of us have spent long enough there to know what areas to avoid. We want to rent a 2/3 bed and have so far been looking at the Meas-Glas and Bassaleg Road areas. Anyone suggest anywhere decent?

Cheers,

Dan

Malpas is ok, Alt-yr-yn, Fields park and Bassaleg road seems to be ok too. I would personaly avoid Pill, Bettws, Ringland and parts of Duffryn among others.

St Davids Crescent in Maesglas is a nice quiet cul-de-sac. There's a few "TO LET" signs along it at the moment wink

It's really close to Tesco and easy access to J28 of M4.

Depending on budget really, Caerleon is a good area (slightly biased view) but can be expensive to rent. Plenty, and I mean PLENTY of pubs, and us locals are all very friendly folk smile

We very nearly bought in Caerleon but chose Rogiet instead - because of Severn Tunnel Jn - Cardiff and Bristol only a short stop away! Can't believe how many pubs there are in Caerleon for such a small town!!

Lived in Newport for 22 years, I have now exiled my life to the much quieter Cwmbran. smile

I personally would avoid Pill, Alway and Duffryn. Somerton and Lliswerry are also no-gos, although not to the extent of the first three.

Saying that however, even the worst areas have some nice houses/streets and until you have lived there for a while you never know what it's going to be like unfortunately.

It is a much quieter town, but a crap night life. Cost of living is lower but its only a stones throw from Newport and the M4 so easy for a commuter.
If i had to make a choice i would definatly stick to my home town of Cwmbran smile

Mikey,

Funnily enough whilst looking for a place, I rented a house just up the road, or should I say, court, from yourself. Nice quiet area, pub (doralt) is a bit of a treck when drunk though. biggrin

I only know after clicking on your profile and seeing what cars you've got... Not exactly a car people are likely to forget, especially in Cwmbran!

Ive been found lol

Doralt is a bit of a trek yes but a good quiet pub and have a few friends that go there, i tend to taxi up to new inn for a few beers though or down to the crows or greenhouse. I try to avoid my local as it has a bit of a reputation lol

You must introduce yourself one day wink

Rogerstone, Highcross, Basseleg, Caerleon would be my suggestions for the best parts to live
