Got 2 club stands for this, been hinting for Ben (Sorrento205) to sort a PistonHeads S Wales one out, would be nice to see some of the more serious cars there!

It was a pretty good day out last year, ok, there were a few owners clubs there that were not really my thing, but there were also some serious clubs there. It would only benefit from more support from serious owners clubs like PH. It will always be Astras and Corsas if no-one shows support for it and a stand from PH would bring some serious metal to the day if the normal meets are anything to go by.

Yep i would agree totally with this there were some good club stands there and if PH were doing a stand, it would i think encourage other serious car clubs to get involved. its nice to see something being arranged in wales for a changesmile

I think a few people are being a little unfair on this show. You are always going to get an element of 'chav' at any show. The organisers have taken the critisism from the last event and are trying to address the issues brought up.
Chav or not this is the 'Wales Modified and Motorsport Show' and still a very new event on the general show scene. I'm not a fan of the plastic that generally gets shown but there are worse events than this around the country that tend to embrace this fad of modifying cars with tins of Isopon.

If the people of Pistonheads show a bit more support for the show there may be a better breed of car enthusiasts coming up the ranks in South Wales rather than the cruisers that seem to think they own the modified car scene.

I'm not against supporting any automotive event in wales but the fact that the title says "modified" in it IMO sets the stage and creates the wrong image, if they are serious about making it a decent event and not a chav day out then maybe they should for a start change the name, I went last year with my mechanic and to be honest I was embarassed to be there, a few decent cars and a few serious people but in the main it was slappers in tights and crappy music with chavs everywhere, could and should have been ALOT better

There once was a time the word 'modified' simply meant exactly that, i agree that nowadays it is generalised into the cruise scene with the multi tailpiped Saxo's and gullwing doored Corsa's. But unfortunatly this seems to be the way young drivers are forced to be individual due to insurance costs on higher performance cars. There are the few that really spoil it by thinking car control is a handbrake turn in Ronalds establishments. And i dont understand the Drift scene either, guess i'm just a circuit and rallyboy at heart.

This show is never going to be the equivalent of the Goodwood Festival of Speed, but then again most shows around the country are never going to be either! So it looks like the chav's are the new car enthusiasts if everybody just sits back and watches them take over and ruin this once proud hobby of ours.

Hi All,

I'm part of the organising team for this event, and so far its received a fair bit of interest from the internet world.

I would like to clarify that this show has been 2 years in the making and it is in no way connected to the Wales Motor Show of 2006. We have, however taken on board the criticism (and praise) from that event to help create the Wales Modified and Motor Sport Show 2008.

The Wales Motor Show had 3 main sets of criticism:

1) There was not enough "tits and arse".
2) There was too much "tits and arse".
3) The food was too expensive.

We've taken these criticisms into consideration when setting up our 2008 event:-

The Wales Modified Show is a half day "show" starting at midday on Saturday 30th August. This is purely for the car clubs (such as yourselves) to have a laugh, take in whats on offer and to take advantage of overnight camping and the live music entertainment throughout the evening. There will also be an amount of "tits and arse" which should take care of criticism 1 above.

The Wales Motor Sport Show will start at 10am on Sunday 31st August. This will be open to the public and advertised as the "main event". The car clubs who have stayed over from the day before will form a huge part of the exhibition at the show. Sunday will also satisfy criticism 2 above as the "tits and arse" will be extremely limited.

Criticism 3 has been met by us contracting with a sole caterer instead of seperate outlets and companies. This is by far easier to control, and the high quality of food will be available at more reasonable (and realistic!) prices throughout the weekend.

Whilst i appreciate the views of people on here with regards to the "chav" and "plastic" comments, we have limited the amount of cars on display per club to emphasise that we are only looking for the "cream" of each club attending.

I personally know that the car club area for the 2006 event resembled more of a car park (i took 145 cars to the show in one stand). We've limited the number of cars on each display in an attempt to get as many clubs in as possible, to keep things realistic and practical, and its working!

I would really like to see Piston Heads attend the show. Not only from a personal point of view (as i have seen the quality of vehicles on here) but from an exhibition point of view as i think a display of 15 cars from here will raise more than 1 or 2 eyebrows throughout the weekend. It will also re-inforce that (to make use of a stereotype) not all car enthusiasts wear baseball caps and drive saxos with loud exhausts.

I dont think i have much more to say now, but if anyone would like more information on whats happening with the show, or to have any kind of query answered, please feel free to contact me on chris@msw.uk.com.

By the way - thank you Mikey for your support with this - you know i appreciate it smile

Chris
