Peter in Roath has a good rep, although I've never used him. Sure someone here will be able to forward his number to you.

(Said nice and quiet just for you Mr MoJo! smile)

I've used both Roath Garage, and Fforest Garage in Pontardulais. I've had no problems with either.

Fforest are cheaper on servicing, but I'm favouring Roath only as its walkable from my office.

Roath noticed some things needing TLC on my Chim, which Fforest had missed.

Roath is good, just had a 6000 done and only 200 odd quid. Unfotunately for me Peter picked up a few other things that were wrong (split gators, knackered gearbox mounting) so she's back in on Tuesday....rolleyes

As others have said. Pete Millward, Roath Garage, Moy Road, Roath Park, Cardiff. CF24 4TD. Telephone (029) 2046 5374.

After a conversation with David Godfrey, I took my Tuscan down to Pete for him to sort out my clutch.

What a guy – I didn’t have to tell him what to check out – he had already done it. He knows Tuscan’s so well he knew immediately what to look for, he gave the car a good look over as well as taking off the gearbox/flywheel bell-housing to inspect the clutch cylinder.

It was fascinating getting in the pit with him and looking around.

Here’s what he found

1. Clutch cylinder needed new rubbers (leaking, hence the very low action on the clutch pedal).
2. Clutch friction plate almost down to rivets (after 19000 miles - suspicious ??). It appears when the engine was replaced all other “existing bits” were re-fitted without thought to condition or wear.
3. Clutch is a twin plate heavy duty racing clutch made by AP-Automotive, as such it comes complete as a balanced unit. We cannot buy separate friction plates for renewal. The complete unit cost £520 ex VAT (!).
4. During the rebuild some bolts were not tightened down correctly and have been working loose – stripped bolts replaced.
5. Rubber mounting brackets to the rear differential had split – all three replaced.
6. Oil pressure switch leaking under pressure – replaced.
7. Front oil seal leaking under pressure – replaced.
9. Rear brake pipe chaffing with handbrake cable – replaced.
10. Brake pads down to rivets – replaced (with ceramic)
11. Throttles not balanced – engine tune carried out.
12. The hose feeding the windscreen wipers was perished – replaced.

I had the car back last Thursday. Wow, what a difference. The clutch is really light and positive now. Braking is much improved (although I still have to bed the brakes in)and the engine is more responsive.

Pete is a nice guy. He is enthusiastic about performance cars and certainly knows TVR's

Whilst mine was in for repair there was 1 other Tuscan, 2 Cerbera's, 1 wedge and an original 1275cc mini-cooper S.

Was that your Tuscan at Roath last week. Looked very nice. My chim had been in for a few days having a few minor niggles sorted.

I agree that the service is very good at Peters.

Ah, yes. Tahiti Blue with the engine in bits!
Guess yours was the "russet orange" chimera with the leaking steering rack.
It's facinating looking around Pete's garage isn't it.

Take care in checking his work on your car - I bought him a large bottle of Champagne Cognac as a thank you for being messed around by WMS (the company I have taken out a warranty on the car with - through McGurk.com) - purely for medicinal purposes of course.

Ha, now you're talking.

My first car was a 997 long stroke mini cooper. A quickly moved onto the 998 (stronger engine!!) and from there a 1275cc mini coopper S - 1981 (?) mark III model. I quickly uprated to 1993cc dome top racing pistons, chrome rings. 10.1 compression, piper rally cam, large valve head, webber carb, Janspeed tuned exhaust, duplex, EN40B crank, HD shells, lightened flywheel and clutch. All dynamically ballanced by "Pogson's" (where the VW garage now is at the top of Bute East Dock).

Great fun - rallied the car for a number of years until I stuffed in in a bank and made it 5 inched shorter on the off-side. Strange? didn't really work after that. So then had it re-shelled - Another mark III mini cooper S from Mini-Bits, Weston-S-Mare - however that's another adventure - shame I never upgraded the brakes!!!

You will notice I have learned my lesson on that one.

No mine was the midnight blue jobby. Was in from Thursday through to last Tuesday. I saw the gusset red one mind. Mine was in for clutch master cylinder overhaul, new fuel pipes and some electrical connectors which has rusted.

I saw your U/S timing chain bearings whilst I was there.

I'm not a TVR owner but since moving to Cardiff last yr have been using him to service our 2 cars (Focus and Yaris). He was recommended by my father in law and I can see why. As open and honest as they come and knows his stuff.

I always enjoy looking at the various TVRs that adorn the place when I pop down.
