Well I realised the other day I hadn't checked my oil for a little while. The Astra doesn't use much and I haven't clocked that many miles, but with a trip back to my parents for the weekend, I though I'd better check it. So i followed these easy steps...

1. Remove dipstick and wipe clean - Check
2. Replace dipstick - Check
3. Remove again and check level (noted it was a little low)- Check
4. Locate oil in garage, remove oil cap and fill the desired amount - Check
5. Replace oil cap before setting off - banghead

oh dear, hopefully it did not dry out the engine enough to damage it, but guess it's somewhere else for you to polish up smile

Its easily done,i wouldnt think you lost a vast amount but a little oil spreads a long way.

Not the first and not the last. I have got the T shirt, Checked the oil in a van. Someone else drove it to London. Seeing as the oil was never really checked in the vans, my defence was at least there was some in to start with.

Did that in a Corolla once and had to pay something like £11 for a sodding plastic filler cap.

Me too. Did it once with a Vauxhall nova. The oil pumped straight off the cam shaft, through the hole where the oil cap should have been and onto the exhaust manifold. The oil got baked on so the smell never went away. The really annoying thing is that after i sold that car i had another nova and did the exact same thing.

It's such a school boy error. I even managed to get from Cardiff to Pont Abraham (J49) lol. It emptied every bit of oil, but luckily I had a bit in the boot to top it up to get me home.

I managed to give it a little tidy up the other night though as it was pretty messy, but i need to take the filter off and clean it. I even managed to find the time to polish my battery cover too. Go me!

Not one that I've ever done, but I did one forget to reconnect the electrics to an injector once. Ran a bit lumpy silly

Found the problem. Front wheel hitting the inside of the arch, which has worn away the arch liner exposing the wiring loom underneath. My fault for lowering the front too much.
