A48 white van with camers
Discussion
So just before the St Mellons turning on the left hand side, there have been all week a white van with Police cars including the "evo" parked up on the hard shoulder. Whilst I recon there something to do with car tax, there having a siginificant impact on that road as people just stop to try and work out what they are.
Why they just can't sit on the bridge or use this great online tracking system they keep advertising on the radio / tv etc.
with this and the road widening its like there having a serious effort to wind motorist up in rush hour.
Love to know how they came to think of such a great place to sit.

sorry, but for that post, its been winding me up a treat for the last few days.....
Couldn't agree more!!!!Its been f'in ridiculous - they were there from last Friday through til yesterday morning when I saw them, finally, pack up and all drive off....at 9.15am.......well that made sense....
I did wonder initially if they were monitoring traffic going into City centre re. terrorism, but given there were no similar set ups on other routes in I can't think it was.....
Oh, and I did see one "chase"....was close enough to me to get the old heart rate up - blue lights in the mirror never fail, however good you know you've been.....!!!

There is obviously a lack of serious crime in the South Wales area for them to spend this amount of resources on looking for car tax evaders
This is a very narrow minded attitude. Not only does the van give out information about 'car tax dodgers' but uninsured drivers, and other matters that I cannot discuss.if the car is uninusred or the driver is disqualifed then the vehicle is siezed. The driver/owner of the vehicle then has to prove they own the vehicle and are legal before they are allowed to collect the vehicle from the recovery yard.
Surely taken unisured vehicle/drivers off the road is a good thing?
What would you say if they hit someone you know?
Surely its better to try to reduce the risk/prevention?

Of course it is good to get uninsured drivers/vehicles off the road and I bow to your knowledge of whatever else the police are able to detect that you cannot discuss. My point was simply that there are worse crimes than car tax evasion and running an uninsured vehicle (not that I condone these things), yet there always seems to be a lack of police availability to look into the more serious crimes. I'm not disagreeing that they've caused extra chaos on an already chaotic road, but perhaps there wasn't a suitable and effective alternative place to conduct the search? Obviously that's just speculation though.
Obviously not being from the area I have no hold ups as a resultant of the cameras. However, recent events show the the Ap camera work and were used to apprehend a terror suspect and they are not used in other ways to trap innocent motorists therefore, I for one have no problem with them especially, if they are there for general protection.
I live by there and it hasn't really made anything worse, not dramatically anyway, thats always a busy section around certain hours what with all the people using that as a short cut to the industrial estate and housing areas, have seen the evo a few times with 2 mondeo st's, theyre scanning for problems and i cant fault it, way too many stolen cars in that area or un-licensed, un-insured youngsters.

You obviously were'nt there at the wrong time of day......As for siting, they never seem to have had a problem putting the vans on the bridges before.....don't know why they couldnt this time....would at least have avoided the q's forming in the one direction...
So they are NOT catching speeding motorists........just tax dodgers/uninsured drivers?
If so GREAT. They can sit wherever they bloody well like IMO.
Drive past there 2-3 days a week & can't say I've been affected other than the usual panic worrying whether they had just nabbed me for being slightly over the limit
