Well i would say it didnt go to plan at all. And i have definately learned my lessons for the future runs i do.

I dont like driving with a whole bunch of people ive never met before, you cant predict how they are going to drive and react to circumstances like i can with guys ive driven with a few times now, and also it felt like a circus where the chav kids suddenly came from nowhere to pour over the nicer cars, making quite an uncomftable environment for the regular PHers

People from a local cruise site turned up, about 20 of them but didnt stay, loved that NSX though a bit loud!

And of course my soft spot for E30 M3's showed all night.

I will try to make it next time. I guess we are going to have to call it "Official SW tunnel run" to differentiate it from other runs.

IMHO The way we were doing them with 6 or 7 cars max was the way to go.

Also the last time we were there there were a lot of chavs hanging about, I believe a new location is called for.

Cheers,

AR ( Veteran Tunnel Runner )biggrin

Must say sorento though, i am new on here and brought down the following cars

My Maserati
2 E30 BMW's
1 650 BHP Skyline
The NSX
A MK2 Golf GTI
an s13 200sx
and an E46 M3

I thought it would be nice to get some new members involved but apart from F1FX coming and saying hello i thought you made it very unwelcoming!

At the beginning of the year or sometime last year we had a tunnel run we about 40 odd cars, and it was a disaster in the sense that everyone got split into groups and there seemed to be no sense of cohesion.

Perhaps if everyone got together and discuss the plan it migh work out better?

Perhaps too many cars atract too much attention?

I think next time a PM with location and a meet before hand might work out better for those present.

Cheers,

AR

totally agree, just for my first run i thought i would bring a few buddies, all in fact really enjoyed it, would have been better had the chavs not arrived but that was not meant to happen!

Can I just point out that you run the risk of this being potentially ruined everytime you advertise the fact online here?

The PH London Tunnellers have a restricted forum on PH due to the fact that they don't want every Tom, Dick and Harry turning up.

Likewise, with the South Wales meets every month, it was obvious that the local plod read these forums, and clearly decided to target various cars.

Now, believe me when I say that I would welcome new members whereever possible, however these sorts of events become a victim of their own success, and thus (and I can vouch for this) the runs become a bit slow and broken up.

I frequently go for hoons with the South West lot, however we all email eachother off-line through the PH email function to arrange our runs.

Add in that these runs are organised at 5am in the morning usually, means that we 1. Have no grief with the Police 2. No problems with traffic and finally 3. All the chavs are tucked up in bed.

Now consider also that the London Tunnellers do their runs at 3am/4am usually to ensure they get the tunnels all to themselves, they usually secure great runs.

However as they have let more and more people in, they have attracted one or two nobbers who don't seem to be able to exercise sensible restraint where required so as to not ruin it for everyone else.

Now I'd love to pop along to one of the South Wales Tunnel Runs (by invitation obviously) - however I think I'll pass unless you guys are a little more clever on how you organise the things.

Remember - technially organising these sorts of runs can be deemed illegal by the Police using one or two of their 'interesting' laws that they like to exercise when they want to shut down something they don't like.

Add to that the grief of being pulled, inspected and grilled, and then a seven day wonder, I'd hazard you would be best keeping such events under very close guard.

Just my educated opinion as a PH mod who's seen it go wrong in many ways.
