Nephew has just bought an MX5 (2006) and I read somewhere that the suspension geometry is shite when it comes out of the factory and needs to be set up by someone in the know.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

You didn't say where you were but there seems to be quite a few garages/specialists in the area who are more than capable! I've always used Mototec in Blackwood - 01495 224587

Sorry, Cardiff and Bargoed, but he'll travel if it means getting the right person to do it.

Thanks.

If he's in the big city of Bargoed, then Mototec is virtually on his doorstep!! They look after my Lambo twice a year, various 911's and Boxters and anything else we have in that needs work.

Having done quite a few hard miles in mx5s, i would say the car is set up superb, before you get someone, check tyre wear, inflation etc.I rate the handling on these cars.

Been driving Mk3 MX5's for over a year now and find they handle brilliantly. Just turn the annoying oversensitive traction control off for some big smiles and more fun.

Wife's Mk3 is nearly a year old and I haven't found any problems it handles very well and not noticed any wear on the tyres. Where did you obtain the info with regard to the factory set up

There was a PHer selling his MX5 in the classifieds and he'd done some racing/track stuff. In the advert he went on about how they come from the factory not set up quite right and his had been set up by someone and was now spot on. It wasn't so much about tyre wear, more about perfect handling. Went back to look for the advert a few weeks later and it had gone.

Maybe he was just spouting crap but he sounded a "keeno" and seemed to know what he was talking about.

Thanks Dominic. I have given the car a little workout on a couple of occasions ( all legal and safe) and found the cars handling to be superb. Maybe he had a Friday afternoon model?

The factory settings are quite 'safe' and have some quite large tolerances in them. Having the suspension geometry tuned can, supposedly, give some significant improvements.

More info here - by the infamous 'Lanny' himself.
