Track Day Llandow?
Discussion
After having such fun on the track on Saturday, I felt it apropriate to check whats available, so here we go:
For the 10th march – we need a min 10 cars, and as its short notice could well be just us
It will cost £90 for the day, with an optional £20 for an extra driver for the day.
After that:
31st March 28th April, 19th May, and 16th June
These dates need 15 cars, and are the same costs as above
If you want to go you can contact them directly (01446 796460) , but please post on here with numbers so we can work out if there is enough interest.

With so many opportunities, I am going to have to get my brakes done.
unless there worn i'd be very supprised if yours needed any change, that car was designed for track!
My TVR brakes are off a ford .. and i never had fade once ! and i was driving quite hard. and stayed out for quite long stints..
your car would have been fine !

yeah your brakes should be alright, i'd be more worried about the tyres personally. I witnessed a brand new 997 carrera s shred its tyres in a day at llandow
edit: these are the fronts, but you can still see theyve taken a heck of a punishing

I can confirm this - my front tyres took a severe beating - not enough to replace yet but there's a very noticable wear pattern.

With the track running clockwise, 90% of the turns are right-handers. My front near-side tyre took a severe hammering. Tyre wear, brake pad&disc wear and fuel are all factors that need to factored into the price of a track day.
Even with the above considered the FUN factor out weighs the cost in my book!!
April the 28th and May the 19th are days that would interest me, if I can get the time off work!!

Can i do a half day mate?
not for this weekend - there was no track day I asked what we would need to get a day sorted and the reply was if you can get 10 cars we can do this weekend - hence my post - as it's now late and there's not much interest I will leave this weekend - I might re-define this post though with the other dates as there was interest in them david godfrey said:

Yes but the rears are getting thin. The being mid engine, the braking is rear biased and the pads are a bit down. I am getting some Carbotech from America and if I get the chance new NSX-R rotors, so I will be up to it the next one.

To be honest, any road car will suffer heavy wear on the edges of the tyres. Indeed my BMW is missing thread on the outer cm of its front tyres - still very legal (verified by a resident PH copper), however noticably 'tracked' as it were.
Its down to the softer suspension and camber on things that gives the most hassle.
However that said, there is two further elements to consider:
1. Llandow is a tight track, with many tight corners. This means lots of braking, turning and accelerating. Hence heavily scrubbed tyres.
2. Driver experience. Most of us are learning how to drive 'cleanly' and it could be said that we are there to improve our smoothness in our driving. An effective lap is one not so much 'on and off' but smoothly and carrying speed. This has a massive impact on tyre heat, and additionally as a result, tyre wear.
I went to Colerne, in the wet, and severely killed my tyres. My first real track day. However I'm smoother now as a result, and I understand the ideas behind preserving speed and additionally the brakes and tyres.
My first ever 'track' as it were was Brunters, a rough old track, and I drove home on VERY dubious tyres. This was wholey down to me not understanding how hot my tyres get in extreme cornering and braking, and killing them.
Brake wise, road cars will cope (unless they have really shot brakes), however rather than go through the expense of replacing the whole thing, consider replacing the fluid with a higher quality brake fluid, braided hoses and some fast road pads. I can gaurantee that you'll get 90% of the effectivness of new brakes, at 20% of the cost.
I'm due to do it to mine - the brakes won't fade - they didn't at Colerne, however you can feel them getting upset. Some new pads, and the fluid will result in a hard pedal for longer.
Hope that helps those who are slightly put off by track days as a result
I would like to do more but fund restrict me on tyre costs

Personally although cost is always an issue with everything - it was well worth it - excluding the last PH-SW drive this was the most fun I have had in my Tam
