Good roads, Cardiff way?
Discussion
Not being an original Cardiffian (Kaerdiffian?!) I don't know the best driving roads around here. I've discovered an interesting short run through marshfileds (I think)to Newport. I know I should head for Brecon as that's been good fun in the past. I've also enjoyed the roads around ogmore on sea.
Anyone else got any good tips? I like slow, twisty corners, not so keen on fast sweepers. No point in mt car and the potential for disaster is that much greater.

Yeah, trouble is you have to dodge washing machines, prams, lumps of concrete and rubble from the usual suspects dumping.
And with the dispute between the Lord marcher and The council nobody picks it up!
My father in law has lived there for over 50 years and has said to me that over the years he has seen hundreds of cars in the ditches!
Cheers,

I agree mate it is smooth and sticky.
The rubish is what they just ignore and don't clean. I know the issue is complicated with all the fly tippers and the rest, but it is a shame that they let the countryside go to waste, literally.
Even The Six Bells is not the same.

cardiff end is very messy at the mo,some roadworks going on,some of the corners are pretty slippery in these conditions as well as i found out last thursday!
one of my faves is up the a470,join the a465 at merthyr and head towards hirwaun, join the a4059 that heads through penderyn to the national park,it brings you back out on the a470 on the beacons and is a nice stretch

Brim your tank, get on the M4 to J24, A48 into Newport, right at the Royal Oak and head for Caerleon. Once there, onto the unclassified Caerleon to Usk road all the way to Usk. From there, take the B4598 out to Abergavenny before catching the B4521 towards Skenfrith. Halfway along, take a right onto the B4347 towards Monmouth and then the B4293 back to Chepstow. From there, B4235 back to Usk where you stop for a breather in the square before hopping onto the the A449 down to the M4 and home. I guarrantee you it won't be the last time you do that route!
Take it easy out there,

For a shorter blat, just do the Caerleon to Usk road, and then the Usk to Chepstow bit - can then either turn around and do it again or take the easy M48 route back and let your heart rate get back to normal...

Did this route on Friday with the roof down on the MX-5. Great fun at low(ish) speeds as the concealed entrances to farms etc kept my wits about me. I definitely recommend it. Some considerate drivers in Monmouthshire too, pulling over to let me pass on certain roads. Take it easy out there,
Mike
