300 smackers when 500 can get you a new set of Wolfrace (car/wheel size) dependant with tyres if you look around. I know people would prefer to stick to original wheels etc but 300 sounds a little steep for a polish.

Anyone know where you can actually get wheels chromed?

Renowheel did the wheels on my car ,so I will agree they do a fine job ,check them out on my profile , they did a fab job .I have another place but they are even more expensive .

Depend on your wheel type and if they are splitrims I have a source for original style bolts if that helps.

Hmm, hours and hours of work, involving various grades of wet and dry called micromesh, grades are 1,500 2,400 3,600 4,000 6,000 8,000 and 12,000. Very fine grit indeed, then a good metal polish, Meguires is what I used, then buffing soap on a polishing mop. But my wheels were corroded and pitted and the lacquer was lifting. It has been very labour intensive in terms of manhours, approx 10 hrs per wheel over a period of some months. You have to keep on top of it, a coat of polish after every couple of trips. I would suggest you have a look at the interior rim of your wheel, mine were starting to bubble through the original paint. The dreaded alloy corrosion had set in, so off came the paint, treated the corrosion and repainted with hammerite, even more hours. I reckon it was worth all the effort as it saved me a few hundred quid and when polished they gleam, my bit of bling bling. Hope this helps thumbup

Are your wheels cast or forged Matt?

If cast, it might be a good time to get some forged ones on.

I would not fancy polishing them myself unless I had a spare set so I could take my time.

There is a bloke called Steve from Swansea, he refinished my BBS and did a good job, he also does polishing. I will try to find his number.

Cheers,

The best I have seen at wheel referb is JusWheels of Nottingham, See:
www.juswheels.co.uk/

If you sign up on www.detailingworld.co.uk you can see some of his other work there, OK he’s not cheep and you would have to get your rims couriered up to Nottingham that will be a right ball-ache but the finish he can achieve, especially on split rims, is amazing.

If you want absolute quality from wheel refurbs then Steve Cull in Swansea, Mark at Juswheels, or Dav at www.pureklas.co.uk are the people I'd use. Seen their work first hand and been more than impressed.

If you're after a budget-friendly option then Caerphilly polishers do a really good job for the money they charge.
HTH!
