Who is the Stig?

Just watched a re run of Top Gear,the Stig drives a Renault F1 car around the track in 59 seconds.Awesome,but who is he?

Is this where we all jump and say "I am The Stig"

If you do a search you will find lots of discussion about this. There are a few Stigs rather than just one apparently, I guess to make sure one is always available for filmiing schedules.

Names associated with Stiggy are: Ben Collins, Perry McCarthey and Nicolas Minassion, but for some test drives, the manufacturers own test drivers have taken the place of the Stig as no-one else was allowed to drive the car

Ben Collins and Perry McCarthy I believe. Not sure which way round though. The trouble is that The Stig can be whoever they want it to be so it could have been anyone driving that Renault F1.

Ben Collins. Have met him, got the shirt and a BBC data sheet from Top Gear Production office to prove it. It is very handy having a son in the Production office of Torchwood !!
