Just wondering if anyone has used or knows anything about these guys for BMW servicing?

www.promotive.biz

Can't afford Main Dealer servicing and don't want to go outside of the BMW specialists and this is the only one I know of in S Wales. Are there any others which come recommended?

B & R Garages (BMW independant) off Rover Way, Cardiff used to look after my 323 coupe very well for several years.

Used them once DD and seemed OK - certainly a lot cheaper!!

What about talking to Peter at Roath Garage (TVR specialist) - I understood he worked at Wyndham for years......

Coincidentally I used Peter for a job last week and was pleased with the work but wasn't aware he knew BMWs thoroughly. I am actually after a second opinion on something Peter mentioned to me which might need doing on the car. Maybe I'll just stick with him then?

I'd still appreciate comments on any local specialists.

not a very helpful post but there is (or was) a bmw specialist backstreet garage on tyn-y-coed place, not far away from the tvr garage and i warn you all to AVOID at all costs! A friend trusted them to do some work on his 205 Mi16, the next morning he had a phoncall to say that the car had mysterioulsy been set alight when left outside the garage....

Hi,

They [Promotive] serviced my company vehicle sometime last year - they collected from home and then dropped it off again - I had to return the following day for them to reset the service light on the dash - which to be fair they sorted immediately.

Service was good, rather more worrying was that I followed another customer out of the garage and down to the M4, I noticed he had no brake lights working - either very good with his engine braking or someone forgot to reconnect the lights!

I cannot comment on cost as fortunately the bill was settled by my employer.

I have used the guys at Promotive for years, and my mates too! Their labour rates are much cheaper than BMW and they know their stuff. Just had my X5 engine performance upgraded there WOW!

Used to go to school with the owner many moons ago. He used to work for BMW in Newport when it was LMT...showing my age now....they changed a clutch in my E30 M3 EVO way back in 1995 so if they have been around for that long they must be doing something right.

Other than that try www.Parvaprestigecars.co.uk in Chepstow. My wife has purchased a few BMW from them and had a few services done plus they did the MOT on my Elise. Found them very good. Chris the owner worked for Cotswold BMW for years and is a top bloke, plus has a few tasty cars for sale as well.

A couple of guys from work take their cars there for big jobs (do simple servicing stuff themselves) and are happy with the quality of work.

Mate if they're the same promotive as used to be in Rogerstone I'd stay well away from them. Seriously. I used to take my car there and my father because they were close to our houses but due to a series of "events" found somewhere else. I'm not sure what I can write on here but if you want specifics are welcome to drop me a line. Find another independant. In my opinion they are liars and rip off merchants.

The guy I bought my car off used to take it there for servicing. After I bought it I took the car to a Porsche indie and they said that only 6 out of the 12 spark plugs had been changed and by the looks of it the 6 hadnt been changed for years!!
