Decent South Wales drives
Discussion
Evening. Next weekend we hope to be combining picking up a new car in swindon, then over to Cardiff for the rugby. Whilst in Wales we want to take the new car out for a good drive. We'll either be there early on Saturday with time for an hour or so driving or may stay over somewhere for a Sunday blast.
Can I have any suggestions for some decent South Wales drives and possible areas to stay over for a bigger drive Sunday?

Thank you. We're now staying in Crickhowell on sat night so right on the route for some good drives. Been chatting with colleague from aberdare who knows the area well and have some ideas. It looks great, and the driving routes look like they can be turned into much longer loops if we decide. Car is a 3.0 z4 coupe so hoping for some clear skies and great views.
Any other suggestions are welcome. We have all day Sunday now so some nice lunch spots on the routes would be nice.

Come into Wales via the Severn Bridge, come off the M48 at J2 and head for Chepstow on the A466. Stay on the 466 for about a mile until you pass a garage on your left. Turn left here onto the B4235. Follow this all the way to Usk. Once in Usk, take the B4598 towards Chainbridge. Stay on this road until you get to the Steel Horse Cafe where you take a left towards Abergavenny.
When in Abergavenny, take the A465 initially towards Merthyr but exit after about a mile signposted Llanfoist. Follow the B4246 towards Govilon and take a left after a couple of miles signposted Blaenavon.
Once over the top and heading down into Blaenavon itself, take a right onto the B4248 signposted Brynmawr.
Once out the other end, get back onto the A465 and head for Merthyr again. Exit left after a few miles signposted Llangynid, B4560..
Take this road over the mountain and drop down the other side.
Once at the t junction, do a right and head for Crickhowell where you will need to pick the flies out of your teeth and a stiff drink.
I promise you will do that route more than once!

Mind you this is good too. Be careful between Usk and Abertgavenny, coz that's where I live When in Abergavenny, take the A465 initially towards Merthyr but exit after about a mile signposted Llanfoist. Follow the B4246 towards Govilon and take a left after a couple of miles signposted Blaenavon.

Well thank you for all your tips. We had a great time, went on quite a long drive on Sunday.
After the rugby on Saturday we headed up to Crickhowell via the B4560, had a nice dinner in the Bear and stayed at a really nice B and B called Ty Gwyn.
Early breakfast on Sunday morning we then headed up the A40 to Talybont, then took the road along the reservoirs. Not ideal surface but was quiet and had a great view of the snow capped mountains at the top. Headed all the way down this road to join the A470 above the A465 and headed north towards Brecon. Roads were pretty quiet and the views were stunning.
We then headed up to Hay on Wye and stopped for some coffee before heading towards Hereford on B4352 before joining the A438.
Took the A49 south of Hereford and joined the A466 towards Chepstow, stopping off at Tintern for some lunch. After that it was back towards Brighton stopping off in Swindon to pick up the other car.
Girlfriend was very impressed with the roads and Cardiff so we'll be heading back soon, though she's currently looking into a drive up to the peak district next.
We need to head back to Wales though as there are so many routes to look at, we just lacked the time to visit them as had to get back to see my mum, I could happily spend a day driving around those mountains.
I'll post a couple of pics up from my phone.
