Hi all,

Does anyone have experience of using PPS in Hirwaun? They offer a variety of powder coating applications including alloy wheel re-furbishment.

For a set of 8x18" wheels I have been quoted £140 without the tyres on and £180 if they need to remove and re-fit the tyres. The price includes shot blasting, small curbing repairs and powder coating in the colour of my choice, valves and balancing.

The above sounds like an outstanding price to me but what do you think?

I wonder if they would do a group buy price........

Did you follow this up Evil.soup? I like the 24 hour turnaround and collection option and the photos look good.

For £180 I'd be prepared to travel from Glos if there any good.

Only 2x15‘s and 2x16’s on the tvr though so could be cheaper....

I have not made any moves as yet as I have only heard from one person that has used them but the price is spot on. There seem to be a few on here that may be interested so there may be the possibility for a group buy.....

I will look into it but last time I posted a group buy on here it got kicked for being advertising so not sure if I will be allowed to post it if I do manage to negotiate a deal.

Does anyone know if this will be an issues?

Ok, I have spoken to PPS and they have agreed that they can do 18's at £30 per wheel and 16's at £25 per wheel depending on condition but they will cost no more than £30. He did say he will need to see the wheels if there is heavy damage but general curbing will be repaired in the price. He cannot go below these prices as there is no profit in it but I think these are good prices.

If the wheels come with tyres then there is a charge of £10 per wheel for removal, fitting, valves and balancing. This cannot be discounted as he uses a local tyre fitter for this so if you know someone that can do this for you then you could save a little more.

So for a full set of 18's the cost would be £120 without tyres and £160 with tyres and for 16's it's £100 without tyres and £140 with tyres.

Reasonable prices I think!

He only needs us to book in 2 sets to get the discount so it is plain and simple to get your discount, just call 01685 810066 and speak to Keiron explaining that you are calling to book in as part of the group buy he was called about today.

Can I please ask that if you do use them that you reply to this thread to tell us just so we can keep a track of things.

I'm trying to source some spare wheels whilst trying to decide what colour to go for.

What colour are you having yours done in and are you going for a lacquer finish?

Think I have a set of 17" Impreza alloys laying about, no tyres though.

Okay, I'll bear that in mind, thanks. The PCD on later cars changed, mine is 100mm I believe. A friend has a set that should fit and I'm waiting to pick one up so I can try it. I'm having trouble trying to decide on a colour. It will be grey, but there are loads of different greys. May go a bit darker than standard but don't think I would go too dark. Decisions, decisions!

I am looking to get mine done in grey too, probably a steel grey same as they are now but also thinking about going back to the original silver or maybe even white.........really not sure but grey is ahead by a nose so far!

I am even more determined to get them done now aswell since I managed to badly curb one on the weekend, really don't know how I managed it.....

Any particular RAL colour? I've got one in mind, if they can do it, but it's not one of the normal RAL colours though.

Not certain to be honest. Mine last had paint because i took the car to a local garage to change the tyres and they managed to strip the paint off the rim of 3 out of 4 wheels! I know the garage well and a rookie screwed up the job so he said he would have them all re-painted for me so i said i wanted a steel grey and left it to him. I think the place that painted them had some VW or Ford paint i think it was left over from another job so on it went. That said, the colour was exactly what i wanted.

What colour are you looking at?

RAL 9007 Metallic. It's one of the colours that appears to have very fine metallic dust in it, which is very similar to the paint finish on the car, but a bit lighter.
